What is ERNiCrMo-10?

ERNiCrMo-10 is a highly alloyed nickel-chromium-molybdenum-tungsten filler metal (UNS N06022, AWS A5.14 family) that matches Hastelloy C-22 base metal and resists both oxidizing and reducing acids in the as-welded joint. Engineers specify it when a weld must match C-22 plate and pipe for corrosion performance; it is supplied as cold-drawn spool wire and annealed cut rod, with as-welded deposits near 500 MPa yield, 760 MPa tensile, 42 % elongation and 92 HRB. Deposits machine poorly (machinability 18) and wire cost is high; where only chloride pitting and reducing acids are involved, ERNiCrMo-4 (C-276) is the nearest alternative. ERNiCrMo-10 has a density of 8.69 g/cm³ (0.314 lb/in³), heavier than 72% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,357°C (2,475 °F). ERNiCrMo-10 has a yield strength of 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 760 MPa (110 ksi) — stronger than 73% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 42% and the elastic modulus is 206 GPa (29.9 Msi).

Working with ERNiCrMo-10

Is ERNiCrMo-10 easy to machine?

Weld deposit machines like solution-annealed C-22: low speed, heavy positive rake carbide, rigid setup and flood coolant; it work-hardens instantly if the tool rubs.

Can ERNiCrMo-10 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW/PAW with 100 % Ar (or Ar+He for GTAW, Ar+He+small CO₂-free mix for pulsed GMAW); stringer beads, low heat input (<1.5 kJ/mm), interpass <150 °C, no preheat, no PWHT required.

Can ERNiCrMo-10 be formed, bent or molded?

Supplied only as drawn wire/rod; annealed rods bend freely for feeding, cold-drawn spool wire is stiffer — keep drive-roll pressure low to avoid shaving.
