What is ERNiCrMo-7?

ERNiCrMo-7 is a bare Ni-Cr-Mo filler wire (UNS N06455) matched to C-4 base metal; its stabilized low-carbon chemistry keeps corrosion resistance in the as-welded condition without post-weld solution annealing. Supplied as spooled wire and cut lengths for GTAW, GMAW and PAW, it deposits about 470 MPa yield, 720 MPa tensile, 40 % elongation and 200 HB (92 HRB), with service to 650 °C. The deposit work-hardens and machines slowly (machinability 18), and filler cost is high; for the most aggressive mixed acids, ERNiCrMo-13 is the nearest step up. ERNiCrMo-7 has a density of 8.64 g/cm³ (0.312 lb/in³), heavier than 70% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,338°C (2,440 °F). ERNiCrMo-7 has a yield strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 720 MPa (104 ksi) — stronger than 68% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 40% and the elastic modulus is 211 GPa (30.6 Msi).

Working with ERNiCrMo-7

Is ERNiCrMo-7 easy to machine?

Weld metal machines like alloy C-4: gummy and work-hardening — use rigid setups, positive-rake carbide, heavy constant feed, low SFM and flood coolant; avoid dwelling.

Can ERNiCrMo-7 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW/PAW with 100 % Ar (Ar+He for thick sections); keep heat input below ~1.5 kJ/mm, interpass ≤ 100 °C, no preheat, stringer beads and full back-purge; clean to bright metal to avoid porosity and hot cracking.

Can ERNiCrMo-7 be formed, bent or molded?

Supplied as drawn wire; deposits are ductile enough for hammer testing and cold straightening but work-harden rapidly, so cold forming of weldments needs intermediate anneals.

What surface finishes work on ERNiCrMo-7?

Pickle or bead-blast plus passivation to remove heat tint — chromium-depleted oxide is the weak point for pitting; electropolishing gives the best as-welded corrosion performance.
