Working with ERNiMo-7-SA

Is ERNiMo-7 easy to machine?

Deposits machine like a strongly work-hardening Ni alloy — rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, low surface speed and flood coolant; avoid dwelling.

Can ERNiMo-7 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW with 100 % Ar (add He for wetting); keep interpass ≤120 °C and heat input low, use stringer beads, no post-weld stress relief in the 550–900 °C range, and solution anneal + rapid quench if service is severe HCl.

Can ERNiMo-7 be formed, bent or molded?

Supplied as drawn wire; redrawing or re-spooling requires intermediate solution anneals because the alloy work-hardens rapidly.

What surface finishes work on ERNiMo-7?

Pickle or mechanically clean the weld surface — heat tint and embedded iron sharply reduce HCl resistance; do not use chloride-bearing or oxidizing pickling pastes that attack Cr-free Ni-Mo.

ERNiMo-7-SA — frequently asked

What is ERNiMo-7-SA used for?

ERNiMo-7-SA is typically used for hydrochloric acid processing, sulfuric acid equipment and pharmaceutical reactor fabrication. In short: chromium-free Ni-Mo filler; matched to Hastelloy B-2/B-3; for reducing acid duty.

What is the yield strength of ERNiMo-7-SA?

ERNiMo-7-SA has a typical yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 750 MPa (109 ksi) — stronger than 56% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 2 listed tempers.

Is ERNiMo-7-SA easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (20/100, better than 53% of nickel alloy grades). Deposits machine like a strongly work-hardening Ni alloy — rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, low surface speed and flood coolant; avoid dwelling.

Can ERNiMo-7-SA be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated very good (82/100). GTAW/GMAW with 100 % Ar (add He for wetting); keep interpass ≤120 °C and heat input low, use stringer beads, no post-weld stress relief in the 550–900 °C range, and solution anneal + rapid quench if service is severe HCl.

Can ERNiMo-7-SA be formed, bent or molded?

Supplied as drawn wire; redrawing or re-spooling requires intermediate solution anneals because the alloy work-hardens rapidly.

What is the maximum service temperature of ERNiMo-7-SA?

ERNiMo-7-SA is rated for continuous use to about 400°C (752 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between ERNiMo-7-AW and ERNiMo-7-SA?

AW is the default condition — default condition: properties of the undiluted deposit in the as-welded state, used for most HCl-service fabrication. SA: pick when the fabrication receives a full solution anneal to redissolve carbides/β-phase and maximise intergranular corrosion resistance. Yield strength is 470 MPa in AW versus 400 MPa in SA.
