What is ENiCrMo-7?

ENiCrMo-7 is the covered SMAW electrode version of the C-4 Ni-Cr-Mo filler system (UNS W86455), used for manual arc welding where post-weld heat treatment is impractical. It suits field repair and shop joining of Ni-Mo-Cr alloys, with as-welded deposits near 480 MPa yield, 760 MPa tensile, 38 % elongation and 90 HRB, and service to 650 °C. Electrodes require dry storage and redrying, slag must be removed fully between passes, and the deposit machines slowly. ERNiCrMo-7 bare wire is preferred where GTAW or GMAW access is available. ENiCrMo-7 has a density of 8.64 g/cm³ (0.312 lb/in³), heavier than 70% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,350°C (2,462 °F). ENiCrMo-7 has a yield strength of 480 MPa (69.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 760 MPa (110 ksi) — stronger than 70% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 38% and the elastic modulus is 211 GPa (30.6 Msi).

Working with ENiCrMo-7

Is ENiCrMo-7 easy to machine?

Weld deposit machines like C-4 base metal: slow speeds, heavy positive-rake carbide, rigid setup and flood coolant; grind rather than turn thin overlays.

Can ENiCrMo-7 be welded?

DCEP, stringer beads, low heat input, interpass temperature typically below 150 °C; redry electrodes per maker (≈250–300 °C) and remove all slag between passes to avoid slag inclusions.

Can ENiCrMo-7 be formed, bent or molded?

Not a wrought product; joints and overlays are ductile enough for moderate cold straightening but avoid heavy cold work on the deposit.
