| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Hot finished / hot worked, solution annealed | Choose for hot-rolled or forged bar, flanges and valve bodies where section size prevents cold work. | 400 | 860 | 48 | 195 HB | 1.3 % IACS |
SADefault Solution annealed | Standard supply condition for plate, sheet, strip, seamless and welded pipe/tube — maximum corrosion resistance and ductility. | 415 | 895 | 52 | 200 HB | — |

What is Hastelloy B-2?
Hastelloy B-2 (N10665, 2.4617, NiMo28) is a low-carbon, low-iron nickel-molybdenum solid-solution alloy with no deliberate chromium addition. It is chosen for outstanding resistance to hydrochloric acid at all concentrations and temperatures, and to other strongly reducing chemicals, in plate, pipe, tube, bar and welded fittings. Annealed properties are about 415 MPa yield, 895 MPa tensile, 52% elongation and 200 HB, with service limited to roughly 425 °C; slow cooling through 550-800 °C causes ordering embrittlement, and oxidizing media such as ferric ions or nitric acid attack it. B-3 is the direct replacement where thermal stability and fabricability matter. Hastelloy B-2 has a density of 9.22 g/cm³ (0.333 lb/in³), heavier than 97% of nickel alloy grades. It melts at 1,330°C (2,426 °F). Hastelloy B-2 has a yield strength of 415 MPa (60.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 895 MPa (130 ksi) — stronger than 61% of nickel alloy grades. Elongation at break is 52% and the elastic modulus is 217 GPa (31.5 Msi).

Working with Hastelloy B-2
Is Hastelloy B-2 easy to machine?
Machine like a solid-solution nickel alloy: rigid setup, positive-rake sharp carbide, low speed/heavy positive feed to cut under the work-hardened skin, generous flood coolant — never dwell or rub.
Can Hastelloy B-2 be welded?
Readily welded by GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with matching ERNiMo-7 filler; keep heat input and interpass temperature low (≤95–120 °C), no preheat, and avoid slow cooling through 550–800 °C to prevent ordering embrittlement.
Can Hastelloy B-2 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold ductility but a high work-hardening rate — allow extra press tonnage, generous bend radii and intermediate solution anneals (about 1065 °C + rapid quench) for severe forming; hot work 1180–900 °C.
Hastelloy B-2 chemical composition (wt %)
