Working with ENiCrMo-7-SA

Is ENiCrMo-7 easy to machine?

Weld deposit machines like C-4 base metal: slow speeds, heavy positive-rake carbide, rigid setup and flood coolant; grind rather than turn thin overlays.

Can ENiCrMo-7 be welded?

DCEP, stringer beads, low heat input, interpass temperature typically below 150 °C; redry electrodes per maker (≈250–300 °C) and remove all slag between passes to avoid slag inclusions.

Can ENiCrMo-7 be formed, bent or molded?

Not a wrought product; joints and overlays are ductile enough for moderate cold straightening but avoid heavy cold work on the deposit.

What surface finishes work on ENiCrMo-7?

Grind/blend crowns, then pickle-passivate or electropolish to restore the chromium-molybdenum oxide film; no anodizing, plating rarely required.

ENiCrMo-7-SA — frequently asked

What is ENiCrMo-7-SA used for?

ENiCrMo-7-SA is typically used for field repair welding, corrosive process equipment and manual arc joining of Ni-Mo-Cr alloys. In short: SMAW version of C-4 filler; field-repair electrode; no PWHT required.

What is the yield strength of ENiCrMo-7-SA?

ENiCrMo-7-SA has a typical yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 720 MPa (104 ksi) — stronger than 56% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 3 listed tempers.

Is ENiCrMo-7-SA easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (25/100, better than 76% of nickel alloy grades). Weld deposit machines like C-4 base metal: slow speeds, heavy positive-rake carbide, rigid setup and flood coolant; grind rather than turn thin overlays.

Can ENiCrMo-7-SA be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated excellent (88/100). DCEP, stringer beads, low heat input, interpass temperature typically below 150 °C; redry electrodes per maker (≈250–300 °C) and remove all slag between passes to avoid slag inclusions.

What surface finishes work on ENiCrMo-7-SA?

Can ENiCrMo-7-SA be formed, bent or molded?

Not a wrought product; joints and overlays are ductile enough for moderate cold straightening but avoid heavy cold work on the deposit.

What is the maximum service temperature of ENiCrMo-7-SA?

ENiCrMo-7-SA is rated for continuous use to about 650°C (1,202 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between ENiCrMo-7-AW and ENiCrMo-7-SA?

AW is the default condition — standard supplied/qualified condition: field SMAW joints and overlays where solution annealing is impossible. SA: pick when shop-fabricated components can be solution annealed after welding for maximum ductility and homogeneity. Yield strength is 480 MPa in AW versus 400 MPa in SA.
