Working with CZ-100-SR

Is CZ-100 easy to machine?

Machine like commercially pure nickel: slow-to-moderate speed, heavy positive-rake sharp carbide, rigid setup, generous feed to cut under the work-hardened skin, and copious sulphur-free coolant to avoid built-up edge.

Can CZ-100 be welded?

GTAW/SMAW with ERNi-1 / ENi-1 filler; grind the casting skin back to clean metal, keep interpass temperature low and heat input modest, and exclude sulphur, lead and grease which cause hot cracking and porosity.

Can CZ-100 be formed, bent or molded?

Sand, investment or centrifugal cast with high pouring temperature and strong risering — CZ-100 has a long liquid-to-solid contraction path and shrinks about 2 %; not a wrought/formable product.

What surface finishes work on CZ-100?

Not anodizable; use mechanical polishing, pickling in HF/HNO₃-free acid mixes, electropolishing, or electroless nickel where a fully pore-free surface is needed for food or pharma duty.

CZ-100-SR — frequently asked

What is CZ-100-SR used for?

CZ-100-SR is typically used for caustic soda pump casings, food processing valves and electrolytic cell components. In short: cast pure nickel; caustic-service casting grade; high-purity food-contact castings.

What is the yield strength of CZ-100-SR?

CZ-100-SR has a typical yield strength of 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 370 MPa (53.7 ksi) — weaker than 97% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.

Is CZ-100-SR easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated fair (36/100, better than 98% of nickel alloy grades). Machine like commercially pure nickel: slow-to-moderate speed, heavy positive-rake sharp carbide, rigid setup, generous feed to cut under the work-hardened skin, and copious sulphur-free coolant to avoid built-up edge.

Can CZ-100-SR be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (62/100). GTAW/SMAW with ERNi-1 / ENi-1 filler; grind the casting skin back to clean metal, keep interpass temperature low and heat input modest, and exclude sulphur, lead and grease which cause hot cracking and porosity.

What surface finishes work on CZ-100-SR?

Can CZ-100-SR be formed, bent or molded?

Sand, investment or centrifugal cast with high pouring temperature and strong risering — CZ-100 has a long liquid-to-solid contraction path and shrinks about 2 %; not a wrought/formable product.

What is the maximum service temperature of CZ-100-SR?

CZ-100-SR is rated for continuous use to about 480°C (896 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between CZ-100-F and CZ-100-ANN?

F is the default condition — standard supply condition for A494 CZ-100 pump and valve castings; meets the specified 345 MPa UTS / 125 MPa YS / 10 % elongation minima without heat treatment. ANN: full anneal used to maximise ductility and homogenise the structure of heavy-section or weld-fabricated CZ-100 castings. Yield strength is 160 MPa in F versus 140 MPa in ANN.
