| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Annealed | Pick for maximum cold formability — deep drawing, severe bending, spinning — where strength is not critical. | 135 | 280 | 24 | 68 HB | 29 % IACS |
As fabricated | As-fabricated Al-5Mg product with no mechanical property limits guaranteed; strength between annealed and lightly strain-hardened tempers. | 140 | 280 | 20 | 70 HB | 29 % IACS |
Slightly strain hardened | Standard soft plate/extrusion temper for welded structures needing good bending with minimum guaranteed strength. | 145 | 290 | 21 | 72 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened from hot working only | Hot-rolled thick plate or extrusions where properties come from hot work; the usual choice for heavy welded marine sections. | 160 | 300 | 17 | 76 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, quarter hard | Cold-worked then partially annealed to quarter-hard level; stabilised structure with better ductility than H12 at similar strength. | 205 | 300 | 14 | 78 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened, quarter hard | Quarter-hard cold-rolled Al-5Mg sheet: moderate strength gain over O temper with good remaining ductility. | 215 | 305 | 12 | 80 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened and stabilized, marine temper | The workhorse plate temper for welded marine, tank and offshore structures — good strength with controlled sensitization resistance. | 230 | 335 | 13 | 88 HB | 28 % IACS |
Strain hardened and stabilized, quarter hard | General-purpose sheet temper balancing moderate strength with usable bending; stabilization prevents age softening. | 235 | 330 | 12 | 87 HB | 28 % IACS |
Strain hardened, corrosion-resistant marine temper | Specify for marine hulls and seawater-immersed plate: same strength class as H321 but with mandatory ASTM G66/G67 exfoliation and sensitization acceptance. | 240 | 340 | 12 | 90 HB | 28 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, half hard | Half-hard stabilised Al-5Mg sheet; common bending/forming temper for high-Mg architectural and marine panels. | 245 | 330 | 11 | 88 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened, half hard | Half-hard cold-worked Al-5Mg sheet offering a balance of high strength and workable ductility. | 260 | 335 | 9 | 90 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, three-quarter hard | Three-quarter-hard stabilised Al-5Mg sheet: near-H16 strength with slightly improved ductility and forming behaviour. | 280 | 355 | 8 | 95 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened and stabilized, half hard | Choose when higher strength and stiffness-per-thickness matter more than bending, e.g. panels and tank walls. | 285 | 370 | 8 | 100 HB | 28 % IACS |
Strain hardened, three-quarter hard | Three-quarter-hard Al-5Mg sheet with high strength and limited cold-forming capability. | 295 | 360 | 6 | 98 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened and stabilized, three-quarter hard | Cold worked and low-temperature stabilised to three-quarter hard; high strength with reduced age-softening and improved SCC stability for high-Mg sheet. | 300 | 365 | 6 | 100 HB | 29 % IACS |
Strain hardened and stabilized, full hard | Thin sheet/strip where maximum as-rolled strength is required and only flat or gentle forming is done. | 340 | 405 | 5 | 110 HB | 28 % IACS |
What is 5019?
5019 (EN AW-5019, AlMg5) is a high-magnesium, non-heat-treatable wrought Al–Mg alloy with about 5 % Mg and a small Mn addition, supplied mainly as plate, sheet and extrusions in annealed or strain-hardened/stabilized (H1xx/H3xx) tempers. It is chosen where 5083-class strength plus excellent seawater and weld corrosion resistance are needed — shipbuilding, tanks, offshore and pressure-vessel structures — because its as-welded strength is high and it needs no post-weld heat treatment. Limits: because Mg exceeds 3 %, continuous service above roughly 65 °C risks β-phase (Al3Mg2) grain-boundary precipitation and stress-corrosion/exfoliation sensitivity, and cold formability drops sharply in the harder tempers. 5019 has a density of 2.64 g/cm³ (0.0954 lb/in³), lighter than 94% of aluminum grades. It melts at 570°C (1,058 °F). 5019 has a yield strength of 230 MPa (33.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 335 MPa (48.6 ksi) — stronger than 60% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 13% and the elastic modulus is 70 GPa (10.2 Msi).

Working with 5019
Is 5019 easy to machine?
Gummy and adhesive like all high-Mg alloys — use sharp polished high-rake carbide, high surface speed, generous lubrication and chip evacuation; hard tempers cut cleaner than O.
Can 5019 be welded?
Excellent with GMAW/GTAW using 5183 or 5356 filler; no post-weld heat treatment, but keep interpass temperature low and avoid heating above ~65 °C in service to prevent sensitization.
Can 5019 be formed, bent or molded?
Form in O/H111 for tight radii; H32 and harder tempers need generous bend radii and are prone to Lüders/orange-peel marking — warm forming 120–200 °C helps but must be brief.
