Compare all 6 conditionsHide
| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|

Strain hardened and partially annealed, full hard | Highest-strength strip temper for flat or lightly bent parts; forming is limited to gentle radii. | 260 | 305 | 4 | 88 HB | 32 % IACS |
What is 5449?
5449 (A95449, AlMg2Mn0.8(B)) is a low-magnesium, manganese-bearing Al-Mg automotive sheet alloy, non-heat-treatable and supplied in O, H111 and H22–H28 tempers. It is chosen for exterior and structural body panels because a 95 formability rating and high n-value support deep drawing, stretch forming and hemming while 95 MPa yield, 210 MPa tensile and 24% elongation give useful dent resistance; weldability is rated 90. Machinability is low (32), joint and HAZ strength fall to near-O after welding, and service is limited to about 150 °C. 5182 is the usual alternative where higher panel strength is needed. 5449 has a density of 2.68 g/cm³ (0.0968 lb/in³), lighter than 72% of aluminum grades. It melts at 610°C (1,130 °F). 5449 has a yield strength of 95 MPa (13.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 210 MPa (30.5 ksi) — weaker than 86% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 24% and the elastic modulus is 70 GPa (10.2 Msi).

Working with 5449
Is 5449 easy to machine?
Machines like other soft 5000-series sheet — use sharp polished high-rake carbide tools, high speed and flood lubrication to prevent built-up edge and burring.
Can 5449 be welded?
Readily GMAW/GTAW, resistance spot and laser welded with 5356 or 5183 filler; HAZ softens to near-O strength in H2x tempers.
Can 5449 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent deep drawing, stretch forming and hemming in O/H111; the high n-value gives good strain distribution, but temper-roll or pre-strain to suppress Lüders bands and allow bake response.
