What is 5554?
5554 is an Al-Mg-Mn filler alloy (A95554, EN AW-5554, AlMg2.7Mn) with magnesium held below 3 % so joints stay free of stress-corrosion risk in elevated-temperature service. It is the standard consumable for 5454 base metal, supplied as H14 welding wire and also listed as O, H32, H34 and H112 product; as-welded properties are 125 MPa yield, 255 MPa tensile, 17 % elongation and 62 HB with service to 150 C. Weldability is rated 92, machinability only 40, and 34 % IACS conductivity limits electrical use. Reserve 5356 and 5183 for joints that stay cool. 5554 has a density of 2.69 g/cm³ (0.0972 lb/in³), lighter than 67% of aluminum grades. It melts at 602°C (1,116 °F). 5554 has a yield strength of 125 MPa (18.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 255 MPa (37 ksi) — weaker than 75% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 17% and the elastic modulus is 70 GPa (10.2 Msi).

Working with 5554
Is 5554 easy to machine?
Soft and gummy — use sharp polished high-rake carbide, high surface speed and flood coolant or emulsion to stop chip welding.
Can 5554 be welded?
Designed as filler: GMAW/GTAW 5554 on 5454 (and other Mg<3% 5000 series) for service to ~150 °C; use argon, DCEP spray or AC TIG, and keep 5356/5183 away from hot service joints.
Can 5554 be formed, bent or molded?
Annealed and H32 sheet form readily; allow generous bend radii in H34 and expect springback typical of Al-Mg.
