Slightly strain hardened | Near-annealed sheet/plate that has seen minor straightening or levelling; use where O-temper ductility is wanted but flatness matters. | 45 | 105 | 24 | 28 HB | 52 % IACS |
As fabricated | Mill product with no controlled thermal or work-hardening treatment; properties not guaranteed, used for stock to be further worked. | 50 | 105 | 20 | 28 HB | 52 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, quarter hard | Same strength class as H12 but stabilised by partial annealing, giving better ductility and flatness for forming. | 85 | 115 | 12 | 32 HB | 51.5 % IACS |
Strain hardened, quarter hard | Mild work hardening: slightly stiffer than O with most of the forming ability retained. | 95 | 115 | 9 | 33 HB | 51 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, half hard | Half-hard with restored bend ductility — the usual choice for anodised trim and profiled/roll-formed panels. | 105 | 130 | 8 | 37 HB | 51 % IACS |
H14Default Strain hardened, half hard | The general-purpose stocked sheet temper: balanced strength, flatness and moderate bending ability. | 115 | 130 | 6 | 38 HB | 51 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, three-quarter hard | Three-quarter hard with stabilised ductility for stiff strip that still needs a light bend. | 125 | 145 | 5 | 42 HB | 51 % IACS |
Strain hardened, three-quarter hard | Higher strength strip for shallow forming, roll-formed trim and stiff thin panels. | 130 | 145 | 4 | 43 HB | 51 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, full hard | Full-hard stabilised strip: H18 strength with slightly better consistency and edge ductility. | 140 | 160 | 4 | 47 HB | 50 % IACS |
Strain hardened, full hard | Maximum standard cold-work level: choose for flat blanked parts, springy strip and best surface hardness; bending ability is poor. | 145 | 160 | 3 | 48 HB | 50 % IACS |
Strain hardened, extra hard | Extra-hard thin strip/foil stock for maximum tensile strength where no forming is required. | 160 | 175 | 2 | 52 HB | 50 % IACS |

Working with 5010
Is 5010 easy to machine?
Soft and gummy in O/H1x tempers — use sharp polished high-rake carbide, high speed, generous coolant/lubricant and chip breakers to avoid built-up edge.
Can 5010 be welded?
Readily GTAW/GMAW or resistance welded with 5356 or 5183 filler; the heat-affected zone reverts toward O-temper strength, and low Mg avoids sensitisation.
Can 5010 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability in O/H22/H24 — deep draw, spin and bend to tight radii; hard tempers (H18/H19) need generous bend radii or intermediate annealing at 340–400 °C.

5010 — frequently asked
What is 5010 used for?
5010 is typically used for decorative panels, light-duty sheet metal parts and anodized components. In short: bright-anodizing 5000-series sheet; lowest-strength 5000-series alloy; no sensitisation risk.
What is the yield strength of 5010?
5010 has a typical yield strength of 115 MPa (16.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 130 MPa (18.9 ksi) — weaker than 79% of aluminum grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 12 listed tempers.
Is 5010 easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated fair (35/100, worse than 86% of aluminum grades). Soft and gummy in O/H1x tempers — use sharp polished high-rake carbide, high speed, generous coolant/lubricant and chip breakers to avoid built-up edge.
Can 5010 be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated excellent (88/100). Readily GTAW/GMAW or resistance welded with 5356 or 5183 filler; the heat-affected zone reverts toward O-temper strength, and low Mg avoids sensitisation.
