| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Annealed | Default choice for deep drawing, spinning, chemical-vessel lining, foil and conductor work where maximum ductility and conductivity are needed. | 28 | 70 | 43 | 19 HB | 62 % IACS |
As fabricated | Cheapest hot-worked plate or extruded bus bar where only conductivity and corrosion matter, not guaranteed mechanicals. | 32 | 75 | 30 | 20 HB | 62 % IACS |
Slightly strain hardened | European-market near-soft temper for straightened/levelled sheet and extrusions that still need good forming. | 32 | 72 | 32 | 20 HB | 62 % IACS |
Strain hardened from hot working only | Hot-rolled plate and extruded bus bar/tube where a guaranteed minimum strength is required without cold rolling. | 35 | 78 | 25 | 21 HB | 62 % IACS |
Strain hardened, as-fabricated plate with light cold work | Commercially pure aluminium plate supplied hot-worked with a small amount of incidental cold work, giving strength just above the annealed condition with excellent formability and conductivity. | 40 | 85 | 22 | 23 HB | 61 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, quarter hard | Same strength class as H12 but with better ductility and flatness after a partial anneal — good for formed strip. | 70 | 85 | 18 | 23 HB | 61.5 % IACS |
Strain hardened, quarter hard | Light cold work for slightly stiffer sheet that still bends and draws readily. | 76 | 83 | 16 | 23 HB | 61.5 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, half hard | The most common Chinese-market 1060 sheet temper: H14-level strength with noticeably better bend performance. | 80 | 95 | 14 | 26 HB | 61.5 % IACS |
Strain hardened, half hard | General-purpose cold-rolled sheet: stiffer and flatter than O, still weldable and bendable over moderate radii. | 90 | 97 | 12 | 26 HB | 61.5 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, three-quarter hard | H16 strength with improved ductility; used for roll-formed profiles and stiffer panel strip. | 95 | 110 | 10 | 30 HB | 61 % IACS |
Strain hardened, three-quarter hard | Choose for flat panels and shallow-formed parts needing more stiffness and spring-back control. | 103 | 110 | 8 | 30 HB | 61 % IACS |
Strain hardened and partially annealed, full hard | Full-hard strip with slightly more residual ductility than H18; used for hard strip and fin stock. | 115 | 130 | 7 | 34 HB | 61 % IACS |
Strain hardened, full hard | Maximum work-hardened strength for flat strip, fin stock and foil stock; very limited bending. | 124 | 131 | 6 | 35 HB | 61 % IACS |
Strain hardened, extra hard | Heavily cold-rolled foil, capacitor and household foil stock, or hard-drawn wire; essentially non-formable. | 135 | 145 | 4 | 38 HB | 60.5 % IACS |
What is 1060?
1060 is a commercially pure wrought aluminium (min 99.60 % Al) supplied mainly as sheet, strip, foil, bus bar and tube. It is chosen for its very high electrical and thermal conductivity, excellent corrosion resistance in atmospheric and many chemical environments, superb formability and weldability, and bright anodizing/polishing response. Its limits are very low strength (it is not heat-treatable and only work-hardens modestly), poor machinability due to gumminess, and rapid softening above ~120–150 °C in strain-hardened tempers. 1060 has a density of 2.71 g/cm³ (0.0977 lb/in³), lighter than 54% of aluminum grades. It melts at 646°C (1,195 °F). 1060 has a yield strength of 28 MPa (4.06 ksi) and a tensile strength of 70 MPa (10.2 ksi) — weaker than 98% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 43% and the elastic modulus is 69 GPa (10 Msi).

Working with 1060
Is 1060 easy to machine?
Very gummy — use polished high-rake carbide, high surface speed, generous flood coolant or MQL, and sharp tools to avoid built-up edge and torn finish.
Can 1060 be welded?
Excellent with TIG/MIG using 1100 or 1188 filler; resistance and friction-stir welding also fine, and welds are essentially as strong as annealed base metal (H-temper HAZ softens to O).
Can 1060 be formed, bent or molded?
Outstanding for deep drawing, spinning, stamping and roll forming in O/H22 tempers; bend radii can approach zero t in O, but H16–H19 need generous radii or interstage annealing.
