Aluminum 1199
AA 1199 · UNS A91199 · EN AW-1199, AW 1199 · GB 1A99
1199 is one of the purest registered wrought aluminium grades (Al ≥ 99.99 %); very low Fe, Si and Cu residuals give electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and optical reflectance close to the theoretical values for pure aluminium.

| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Annealed | Default condition: maximum ductility, conductivity and anodizing/etching uniformity — capacitor anode foil, reflectors, deep-drawn and lined components. | 12 | 45 | 50 | 13 HB | 64.5 % IACS |
Strain hardened, half hard | Intermediate cold-rolled temper when annealed material is too limp to handle but appreciable forming ductility is still needed. | 70 | 80 | 10 | 23 HB | 64 % IACS |
Strain hardened, full hard | Fully cold-rolled foil/sheet: highest strength and best handling stiffness for thin gauges, at the cost of almost all ductility. | 105 | 115 | 4 | 30 HB | 63.5 % IACS |
Strain hardened, extra hard | Extra-hard rolled foil temper used for high-voltage electrolytic-capacitor cathode/anode foil and other very thin gauges needing tensile strength for winding. | 120 | 130 | 2 | 33 HB | 63.5 % IACS |
What is 1199?
1199 is one of the purest registered wrought aluminium grades (Al ≥ 99.99 %); very low Fe, Si and Cu residuals give electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, corrosion resistance and optical reflectance close to the theoretical values for pure aluminium. It is used for electrolytic capacitor anode and cathode foil, high-reflectance sheet, sputtering and vapour-deposition targets, and high-purity parts for electronics and chemical service. Strength is very low, the metal is gummy and difficult to cut, and it cannot be strengthened by alloying or heat treatment — only cold work raises strength, and that softens quickly on heating. 1199 has a density of 2.7 g/cm³ (0.0975 lb/in³), lighter than 59% of aluminum grades. It melts at 660°C (1,220 °F). 1199 has a yield strength of 12 MPa (1.74 ksi) and a tensile strength of 45 MPa (6.53 ksi) — weaker than 100% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 50% and the elastic modulus is 62 GPa (8.99 Msi).

Working with 1199
Is 1199 easy to machine?
Very gummy — use polished high-rake carbide or single-crystal diamond tools, high speed, low feed and flood lubricant to avoid built-up edge and tearing; not suited to threading or fine parting.
Can 1199 be welded?
Excellent gas-tungsten/gas-metal arc weldability with 1188/1100 filler or autogenously; keep the joint contamination-free since Fe/Si pickup destroys purity, conductivity and etch behaviour.
Can 1199 be formed, bent or molded?
Outstanding cold formability in O temper — deep drawing, spinning, rolling to a few micrometres of foil; anneal between heavy reductions and expect very low springback plus easy scuffing.
Manufacturability
The process limits FabDigit applies to 1199. Every 1199 part is priced by an engineer; design inside these and the quote comes back without a redesign loop.
