Working with 1060-H19
Is 1060 easy to machine?
Very gummy — use polished high-rake carbide, high surface speed, generous flood coolant or MQL, and sharp tools to avoid built-up edge and torn finish.
Can 1060 be welded?
Excellent with TIG/MIG using 1100 or 1188 filler; resistance and friction-stir welding also fine, and welds are essentially as strong as annealed base metal (H-temper HAZ softens to O).
Can 1060 be formed, bent or molded?
Outstanding for deep drawing, spinning, stamping and roll forming in O/H22 tempers; bend radii can approach zero t in O, but H16–H19 need generous radii or interstage annealing.
What surface finishes work on 1060?
Takes bright dip, clear and hard anodize very well thanks to high purity; also easy to polish, brush, paint and powder coat, though the soft surface scratches readily.
