What is 1370?
1370 is an electrical-conductor (EC) grade unalloyed aluminium with a minimum 99.70 % Al and tightly capped Cu, Mn, Cr, Ti and V so that the guaranteed volume conductivity (≈62 % IACS annealed) is met. It is drawn into wire, stranded conductors, busbar and transformer/motor winding strip where conductivity per unit mass, formability and low cost matter more than strength. Limits are very low strength (soft in O temper, and H19 hard-drawn wire loses its work hardening above ~100 °C), high creep/stress-relaxation at bolted joints, poor machinability and no heat-treat strengthening option. 1370 has a density of 2.71 g/cm³ (0.0977 lb/in³), lighter than 54% of aluminum grades. It melts at 646°C (1,195 °F). 1370 has a yield strength of 155 MPa (22.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 175 MPa (25.4 ksi) — weaker than 63% of aluminum grades. Elongation at break is 2% and the elastic modulus is 69 GPa (10 Msi).

Working with 1370
Is 1370 easy to machine?
Soft and gummy — use polished high-rake carbide, high speed, low feed pressure and flood lubricant to avoid built-up edge and smearing; not a screw-machine material.
Can 1370 be welded?
Excellent with TIG/MIG using 1100 or 1188 filler, or by cold/friction/ultrasonic and exothermic (Cadweld) methods for conductors; hard tempers recrystallize and lose strength in the HAZ.
Can 1370 be formed, bent or molded?
Outstanding cold formability in O temper (deep drawing, foil rolling, wire drawing with 10–20 % reductions); anneal 340–410 °C to reset work hardening.
Manufacturability
The process limits FabDigit applies to 1370. Every 1370 part is priced by an engineer; design inside these and the quote comes back without a redesign loop.

What surface finishes work on 1370?
Takes bright clear or hard anodizing very well; for electrical joints prefer tin or silver plating and abrasive cleaning plus joint compound rather than an insulating anodic film.
