Working with VT1-0-HR

Is VT1-0 easy to machine?

Low speeds, heavy positive-rake sharp carbide tooling and flood coolant; avoid dwelling (work hardening) and control chips — fine turnings are a fire hazard.

Can VT1-0 be welded?

Excellent GTAW/PAW/EBW weldability with full argon/helium shielding and trailing gas; keep weld zone bright silver — straw/blue/grey tint signals contamination and embrittlement.

Can VT1-0 be formed, bent or molded?

Formable cold with generous bend radii (≈2–3 t) and allowance for high springback; warm forming at 200–400 °C greatly improves deep-draw and bend performance.

What surface finishes work on VT1-0?

Pickle in HNO₃/HF to remove alpha case and scale; takes bright polishing, colour anodizing (AMS 2488 Type II) and PVD coatings; do not plate directly without activation.

VT1-0-HR — frequently asked

What is VT1-0-HR used for?

VT1-0-HR is typically used for seawater piping, heat exchangers, pressure vessels and architectural cladding. In short: grade 2-equivalent CP titanium; highly weldable seawater alloy; corrosion resistance at low density.

What is the yield strength of VT1-0-HR?

VT1-0-HR has a typical yield strength of 360 MPa (52.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 480 MPa (69.6 ksi) — weaker than 77% of titanium grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 6 listed tempers.

Is VT1-0-HR easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated fair (36/100, better than 82% of titanium grades). Low speeds, heavy positive-rake sharp carbide tooling and flood coolant; avoid dwelling (work hardening) and control chips — fine turnings are a fire hazard.

Can VT1-0-HR be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated excellent (85/100). Excellent GTAW/PAW/EBW weldability with full argon/helium shielding and trailing gas; keep weld zone bright silver — straw/blue/grey tint signals contamination and embrittlement.

What surface finishes work on VT1-0-HR?

Can VT1-0-HR be formed, bent or molded?

Formable cold with generous bend radii (≈2–3 t) and allowance for high springback; warm forming at 200–400 °C greatly improves deep-draw and bend performance.

What is the maximum service temperature of VT1-0-HR?

VT1-0-HR is rated for continuous use to about 300°C (572 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between VT1-0-ANN and VT1-0-CW?
