Working with ERTi-2-ANN

Is ERTi-2 easy to machine?

Weld metal machines like CP Ti Gr.2 — slow speed, high feed, sharp carbide tools, flood coolant, never dwell (galling and fire risk with fine chips).

Can ERTi-2 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW/PAW with 99.99 % argon or Ar-He, trailing shield and full back purge; keep interpass <150 °C and joints surgically clean — straw/blue tint is acceptable, grey/white powder means scrap and rework.

Can ERTi-2 be formed, bent or molded?

Deposited metal is ductile enough for cold bending at generous radii (≥3–4 t); hot forming 600–750 °C in the annealed condition to avoid springback.

What surface finishes work on ERTi-2?

Pickle in HNO3/HF or abrasive-blast plus pickle to remove alpha case; colour anodizing or thermal oxidation for identification; avoid iron contamination from steel brushes/grinding media.

ERTi-2-ANN — frequently asked

What is ERTi-2-ANN used for?

ERTi-2-ANN is typically used for welding CP Ti Grade 2 vessels, marine and desalination equipment, aerospace ducting and general titanium fabrication. In short: most widely used Ti filler; matches CP Grade 2 strength; highest-ductility CP deposit.

What is the yield strength of ERTi-2-ANN?

ERTi-2-ANN has a typical yield strength of 340 MPa (49.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (65.3 ksi) — weaker than 81% of titanium grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 3 listed tempers.

Is ERTi-2-ANN easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated fair (42/100, better than 98% of titanium grades). Weld metal machines like CP Ti Gr.2 — slow speed, high feed, sharp carbide tools, flood coolant, never dwell (galling and fire risk with fine chips).

Can ERTi-2-ANN be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated excellent (90/100). GTAW/GMAW/PAW with 99.99 % argon or Ar-He, trailing shield and full back purge; keep interpass <150 °C and joints surgically clean — straw/blue tint is acceptable, grey/white powder means scrap and rework.

Can ERTi-2-ANN be formed, bent or molded?

Deposited metal is ductile enough for cold bending at generous radii (≥3–4 t); hot forming 600–750 °C in the annealed condition to avoid springback.

What is the maximum service temperature of ERTi-2-ANN?

ERTi-2-ANN is rated for continuous use to about 315°C (599 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between ERTi-2-AW and ERTi-2-ANN?

AW is the default condition — default condition of the deposited weld metal straight from GTAW/GMAW with full argon shielding and trailing/back purge. ANN: softest, most ductile condition; used when the whole fabrication is annealed for forming or maximum toughness/hydrogen control. Yield strength is 380 MPa in AW versus 340 MPa in ANN.
