What is BAg-21?
BAg-21 is a high-silver, cadmium-free BAg braze filler containing nickel and tin, classified under UNS P07630 in the AWS A5.8 silver braze family. Engineers select it for high joint strength and elevated-temperature service in critical aerospace hardware, with tensile strength of 450 MPa, yield strength of 300 MPa and 20% elongation in the as-brazed condition; it is supplied as wire, strip, preforms and powder-paste. Service is limited to about 400 °C and electrical conductivity is only 13% IACS, so it is not a conductor-joining alloy. The brazing range of 816–899 °C also requires base metals that tolerate that temperature without grain coarsening or sensitization. BAg-21 has a density of 9.8 g/cm³ (0.354 lb/in³), lighter than 75% of precious metal grades. It melts at 691°C (1,276 °F). BAg-21 has a yield strength of 300 MPa (43.5 ksi) and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (65.3 ksi) — stronger than 91% of precious metal grades. Elongation at break is 20% and the elastic modulus is 85 GPa (12.3 Msi).

Manufacturability6
BAg-21's machinability is fair (35/100, worse than 73% of precious metal grades); weldability poor (20/100); formability very good (70/100).

Working with BAg-21
Is BAg-21 easy to machine?
The filler itself is seldom machined; if preforms must be turned, use sharp tools with a large positive rake, low speeds and ample lubricant to prevent smearing and built-up edge.
Can BAg-21 be welded?
Used as a brazing filler, not for fusion welding. Braze at 816–899 °C; the base metal must withstand that temperature without grain coarsening or sensitization.
Can BAg-21 be formed, bent or molded?
Can be drawn to wire, rolled to strip and stamped into preplaced rings. The melting range spans roughly 110 °C, so hold joint clearances at 0.05–0.13 mm and heat rapidly through the mushy range to avoid liquation and segregation.

Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.

| Znessentially Zn-free; suitable for vacuum brazing | ≤ 0.05 | 0 |
| Other (total)maximum total impurities | ≤ 0.15 |
What surface finishes work on BAg-21?
The brazed fillet is silver-white and can be polished. The alloy contains no cadmium or zinc, so torch-brazing fume toxicity is low, but ventilation is still required and borax-type flux residues must be removed after brazing to prevent corrosion.
