Precious Metal Incusil-10 (Ag-Cu-In-Ti)

also Incusil-10

Incusil-10 is a silver-copper-indium-titanium active braze alloy: the titanium reduces ceramic oxides so the filler wets alumina, sapphire and refractory metals directly, without prior metallizing, while the indium lowers the melting range relative to plain Ag-Cu-Ti.

What is Incusil-10 (Ag-Cu-In-Ti)?

Incusil-10 is a silver-copper-indium-titanium active braze alloy: the titanium reduces ceramic oxides so the filler wets alumina, sapphire and refractory metals directly, without prior metallizing, while the indium lowers the melting range relative to plain Ag-Cu-Ti. It is used as rolled foil, wire, stamped preforms and paste for hermetic ceramic-to-metal seals, giving 330 MPa tensile, 220 MPa yield, 20 % elongation and service to about 400 °C. Brazing must run in vacuum better than 10⁻⁴ Pa or high-purity argon at 800–850 °C, since titanium oxidizes and loses activity in ordinary furnace atmospheres. Ticusil is the higher-temperature active-braze alternative. Incusil-10 (Ag-Cu-In-Ti) has a density of 9.9 g/cm³ (0.358 lb/in³), lighter than 70% of precious metal grades. It melts at 685°C (1,265 °F). Incusil-10 (Ag-Cu-In-Ti) has a yield strength of 220 MPa (31.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) — stronger than 67% of precious metal grades. Elongation at break is 20% and the elastic modulus is 76 GPa (11 Msi).

What is Incusil-10 (Ag-Cu-In-Ti) used for?
