What is IC-Ag99.99?

IC-Ag99.99 is a refined fine-silver grade at 99.99% Ag, supplied as ingot, casting grain, foil, powder and O/H02/H04 rolled stock for use as alloying, plating and bullion feedstock. It is specified where purity and conduction dominate: 105% IACS electrical conductivity, 428 W/m·K thermal conductivity and 45% elongation for extreme reductions in rolling and drawing. Mechanical properties are minimal — 40 MPa yield, 130 MPa tensile, 25 HB — so it is not a structural material, it smears when machined, and bare surfaces blacken quickly in sulfur atmospheres. IC-Ag99.95 covers the same duties where 4N purity is not required. IC-Ag99.99 has a density of 10.49 g/cm³ (0.379 lb/in³), heavier than 55% of precious metal grades. It melts at 962°C (1,763 °F). IC-Ag99.99 has a yield strength of 45 MPa (6.53 ksi) and a tensile strength of 140 MPa (20.3 ksi) — weaker than 98% of precious metal grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 76 GPa (11 Msi).

Working with IC-Ag99.99

Is IC-Ag99.99 easy to machine?

Very gummy and prone to smearing — use razor-sharp polished carbide or diamond tools, high speed, light feeds and generous lubricant; collect all chips as they are valuable.

Can IC-Ag99.99 be welded?

Joins readily by TIG, laser, resistance and ultrasonic bonding, but the extreme thermal conductivity demands high heat input and preheat; keep the melt oxygen-free to avoid gas porosity.

Can IC-Ag99.99 be formed, bent or molded?

Exceptional cold formability — can be rolled to leaf, deep drawn or wire-drawn with huge reductions; interstage anneal 600–700 °C in reducing or inert atmosphere.

What surface finishes work on IC-Ag99.99?

Polishes to the highest metallic reflectivity; protect with rhodium/palladium plating, anti-tarnish lacquer or benzotriazole-type inhibitors because sulfur atmospheres blacken bare silver quickly.

How much does IC-Ag99.99 cost?

IC-Ag99.99 is a high-cost precious metal ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
