What is 92Ag-8SnO2?
92Ag-8SnO2 is a low-oxide silver-tin oxide contact composite to ASTM B735, supplied as PM-EXT, O, H02, H04 and bimetal (BIM-Ag) product. The reduced 8% SnO2 content keeps conductivity at 82% IACS and thermal conductivity at 345 W/m·K while leaving enough ductility for stamping and cold heading, with 225 MPa tensile strength, 22% elongation and 57 HB in the default condition. Service temperature is 250 °C and corrosion resistance is high, but arc-erosion resistance is lower than higher-oxide grades, so it suits light-duty switching. Step up to 88Ag-12SnO2 for contactor and breaker duty. 92Ag-8SnO2 has a density of 10.1 g/cm³ (0.365 lb/in³), lighter than 61% of precious metal grades. It melts at 961°C (1,762 °F). 92Ag-8SnO2 has a yield strength of 110 MPa (16 ksi) and a tensile strength of 225 MPa (32.6 ksi) — weaker than 80% of precious metal grades. Elongation at break is 22% and the elastic modulus is 88 GPa (12.8 Msi).

Working with 92Ag-8SnO2
Is 92Ag-8SnO2 easy to machine?
Turns and blanks easily but SnO2 particles abrade tooling — use carbide or PCD, sharp positive rake, light feeds, and collect all chips for refining.
Can 92Ag-8SnO2 be welded?
Not fusion weldable (oxide prevents sound metal flow); attach by resistance welding or Ag-brazing through a fine-silver back layer.
Can 92Ag-8SnO2 be formed, bent or molded?
Annealed stock cold-heads, coins and rivets well; interstage anneal at 550–650 °C in protective atmosphere after heavy drawing/rolling reductions.
