What is BAg-27?
BAg-27 is a tin-bearing, low-silver braze filler (UNS P07251) that offers an alternative flow and melting profile to BAg-26 for general brazing of steel and brass. It is supplied as rod, wire, strip, preforms, flux-coated rod, powder and paste, with as-brazed values of 400 MPa tensile, 25% elongation and 90 HB. The alloy is a joining consumable only and must not be arc-welded because cadmium vaporizes; swarf and offcuts are handled as cadmium-bearing scrap. Where cadmium is restricted, use BAg-26 or BAg-24 instead. BAg-27 has a density of 9 g/cm³ (0.325 lb/in³), lighter than 92% of precious metal grades. It melts at 605°C (1,121 °F). BAg-27 has a yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) — stronger than 81% of precious metal grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 85 GPa (12.3 Msi).
What is BAg-27 used for?

Manufacturability6
BAg-27's machinability is fair (45/100, better than 59% of precious metal grades); weldability poor (20/100); formability very good (80/100).

Working with BAg-27
Is BAg-27 easy to machine?
Rarely machined; the alloy is soft and gummy — use sharp, high-rake tools and collect all swarf as cadmium-bearing scrap for refining.
Can BAg-27 be welded?
Not a weldable structural alloy; it is itself the joining consumable and should not be arc-welded (cadmium vaporizes).
Can BAg-27 be formed, bent or molded?
Readily hot-cast then cold rolled and drawn to strip, wire and preforms with intermediate anneals around 550–600 °C.
BAg-27 chemical composition (wt %)
Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |

| Zn | ≥ 24.5 (balance) |
What surface finishes work on BAg-27?
Braze joints clean up with hot water/mechanical flux removal; the fillet takes a bright polish but slowly tarnishes in sulfur atmospheres, so plate or lacquer for decorative work.
