What is BVAg-32?
BVAg-32 is a low-vapor-pressure silver–copper vacuum brazing filler (UNS P07547) that extends the BVAg series composition range toward higher brazing temperatures. It is used for controlled-atmosphere and vacuum furnace brazing of aerospace and instrumentation assemblies, and is supplied as annealed wire, foil, powder and paste. As-brazed joints show about 400 MPa tensile strength, 230 MPa yield and 18% elongation, with service to roughly 500 °C. The 950–1040 °C braze cycle restricts it to base metals that tolerate that temperature; BVAg-31 brazes lower, at 870–925 °C. BVAg-32 has a density of 10.45 g/cm³ (0.378 lb/in³), heavier than 53% of precious metal grades. It melts at 901°C (1,654 °F). BVAg-32 has a yield strength of 230 MPa (33.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) — stronger than 70% of precious metal grades. Elongation at break is 18% and the elastic modulus is 100 GPa (14.5 Msi).
What is BVAg-32 used for?
- Vacuum furnace brazing of aerospace assemblies

- Limited ductility — 18%, worse than 83% of precious metal grades
- Limited formability — 70/100, worse than 78% of precious metal grades

Working with BVAg-32
Is BVAg-32 easy to machine?
Rarely machined; foil and preforms are stamped or sheared, and all scrap/swarf must be segregated for precious-metal recovery.
Can BVAg-32 be welded?
Not a structural weld filler — apply by vacuum or dry-hydrogen furnace brazing at 950–1040 °C with joint clearance 0.05–0.10 mm; flux is unnecessary and undesirable in vacuum.
Can BVAg-32 be formed, bent or molded?
Ductile and readily drawn to fine wire or rolled to 25 µm foil with intermediate anneals at 600–700 °C in protective atmosphere.

What surface finishes work on BVAg-32?
Braze fillets are self-bright after vacuum brazing; residues can be removed by light bead blasting or dilute acid pickling that does not attack the Cu-rich phase.
