What is C26200?
C26200 is a wrought yellow brass in the C20000–C49999 family, close to cartridge brass in composition and available in OS050 and OS025 annealed tempers through H10. It combines 379 MPa yield, 490 MPa tensile and 23 % elongation at 125 HB (70 HRB) with excellent cold formability, so it suits deep-drawn and stamped hardware, eyelets, rivets and fasteners. Machinability is about 30 % of free-cutting brass, fusion welding is poor because zinc volatilises, service is capped at 200 °C and ammonia exposure risks season cracking. C36000 is the alternative for machining-intensive parts. C26200 has a density of 8.5 g/cm³ (0.307 lb/in³), lighter than 65% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 915°C (1,679 °F). C26200 has a yield strength of 379 MPa (55 ksi) and a tensile strength of 490 MPa (71.1 ksi) — stronger than 75% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 23% and the elastic modulus is 110 GPa (16 Msi).
What is C26200 used for?
- hardware
- fasteners
- stamped components
- eyelets and rivets
Advantages
- Polishes to a fine finish — 85/100, better than 92% of copper alloy grades
- High strength — 379 MPa (55 ksi), better than 75% of copper alloy grades
Limitations
- High embodied carbon — 4.3 kg CO₂/kg, worse than 77% of copper alloy grades

Working with C26200
Is C26200 easy to machine?
Machinability ≈30 % of free-cutting brass — gummy, long chips; use sharp positive-rake tools and generous coolant, or switch to C36000 for screw-machine work.
Can C26200 be welded?
Fusion welding is poor (zinc volatilization and porosity); prefer silver brazing, soldering or resistance welding with adequate fume extraction.
Can C26200 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability in OS tempers — deep draws, spinning and severe bends; interstage anneal at 425–600 °C and stress-relieve cold-worked parts at 260–300 °C to avoid ammonia SCC.
C26200 chemical composition (wt %)
Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| Cuincludes silver | 67 – 70 | 68.5 |
| Pb | ≤ 0.07 | |
| Fe | ≤ 0.05 | |
| Zn≈31 % nominal | balance |
What surface finishes work on C26200?
Not anodizable; bright-dip and lacquer, or nickel/chrome/tin/gold plate readily — takes a high polish for decorative hardware.

How much does C26200 cost?
C26200 is a high-cost copper alloy ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
C26200 — frequently asked
What is C26200 used for?
C26200 is typically used for hardware, fasteners, stamped components and eyelets and rivets. In short: cartridge-brass-class formability; stronger than C26800; not a screw-machine brass.
What is the yield strength of C26200?
C26200 has a typical yield strength of 379 MPa (55 ksi) and a tensile strength of 490 MPa (71.1 ksi) — stronger than 75% of copper alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 9 listed tempers.
