What is C44500?
C44500 is an antimony-inhibited Admiralty brass (CW707R), a tin-bearing Cu-Zn wrought alloy in which the inhibitor addition suppresses dezincification in brackish and sea water. In the annealed condition it runs 124 MPa yield, 331 MPa tensile and 65% elongation at about 60 HB with 25% IACS conductivity, and it is supplied mainly as seamless and welded tube, plus strip in tempers from O61/OS050 through H04. Strength is low, free-machining rating is only about 30% of C36000, and cold-worked parts must be stress relieved to avoid ammonia stress-corrosion cracking; where flow velocities or ammonia exposure are high, 90/10 copper-nickel is the usual alternative. C44500 has a density of 8.53 g/cm³ (0.308 lb/in³), lighter than 62% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 900°C (1,652 °F). C44500 has a yield strength of 124 MPa (18 ksi) and a tensile strength of 331 MPa (48 ksi) — weaker than 78% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 65% and the elastic modulus is 110 GPa (16 Msi).

Working with C44500
Is C44500 easy to machine?
Free-machining rating only ~30% of C36000 — gummy chips; use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed, generous coolant and chip-breaking geometry.
Can C44500 be welded?
Solders and brazes excellently; GTAW/oxyfuel possible with silicon-bronze filler but zinc fuming and porosity make fusion welding a last resort; welded tube is made by high-frequency seam welding plus anneal.
Can C44500 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability in O61 — bending, expanding, U-bending and deep drawing are routine; always stress-relieve (about 275–300 °C) after severe cold work to avoid ammonia SCC.
