What is C66700?
C66700 is a manganese-bearing wrought brass with higher strength and hardness than plain brass, supplied as strip in OS050 and OS025 annealed tempers and H01 through H10 cold-rolled tempers. It combines 380 MPa yield, 470 MPa tensile, 25 % elongation and 120 HB (68 HRB) with good deep-draw behaviour (formability score 66), which suits drawn fasteners, wear parts and structural hardware. It is unleaded and machines at roughly 30 % of free-cutting brass, is not anodizable, and cold-worked parts need stress relief to avoid season cracking. C66900 is the higher-strength manganese brass when 380 MPa yield is not enough. C66700 has a density of 8.41 g/cm³ (0.304 lb/in³), lighter than 72% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 915°C (1,679 °F). C66700 has a yield strength of 380 MPa (55.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 470 MPa (68.2 ksi) — stronger than 77% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 110 GPa (16 Msi).

Working with C66700
Is C66700 easy to machine?
Machinability roughly 30 % of free-cutting brass — gummy chips; use sharp positive-rake carbide, high speed, light feeds and good lubrication.
Can C66700 be welded?
Resistance and GTAW welding are fair; zinc volatilises so use ventilation and low heat input, and prefer brazing or soldering for joints.
Can C66700 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent deep-draw and bend behaviour in OS tempers; interstage anneal at 425–600 °C, and stress-relieve cold-worked parts near 260 °C to avoid season cracking.
