What is C33200?

C33200 is a high-leaded yellow brass in the wrought copper–zinc family, with a lead content raised specifically for fast chip breaking, supplied largely as drawn tube and rod in OS015/OS025/OS050 annealed grain sizes plus H55, H58, H04 and H80. It is used for precision screw-machine work where cycle time and surface finish govern: 415 MPa yield, 515 MPa tensile, 7% elongation and 140 HB (73 HRB) in the default hard condition, machining at roughly 80% of C36000. Ductility and formability are low (formability score 25), lead rules out fusion welding and hot working, and service is limited to about 150 °C. C36000 rod is the usual substitute for solid turned parts. C33200 has a density of 8.47 g/cm³ (0.306 lb/in³), lighter than 68% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 899°C (1,650 °F). Working with C33200

Is C33200 easy to machine?

Excellent free-cutting behaviour (≈80 % of C36000); use high speeds, zero-to-negative rake brass tooling and light emulsion or dry cutting.

Can C33200 be welded?

Not recommended for fusion welding (lead causes hot cracking); join by soft soldering or silver brazing with low heat input.

Can C33200 be formed, bent or molded?

Cold form only in OS tempers and with generous radii; avoid hot working above ~600 °C because of lead hot-shortness.
