What is C27200?
C27200 is a wrought yellow brass in the C20000–C49999 family, similar to C27000 and stocked in OS025 and OS050 through H80 and M20 tempers. Annealed material provides 110 MPa yield, 330 MPa tensile and 55 % elongation at 60 HB, with 123 W/m·K and 27 % IACS, so it is used for low-cost stampings, wire products and decorative hardware. It machines at only about 30 % of AISI 1212, fusion welds poorly because of zinc loss, and is limited to 200 °C service with an ammonia season-cracking risk. C26800 or free-cutting C36000 are the nearest substitutes. C27200 has a density of 8.47 g/cm³ (0.306 lb/in³), lighter than 68% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 905°C (1,661 °F). C27200 has a yield strength of 110 MPa (16 ksi) and a tensile strength of 330 MPa (47.9 ksi) — weaker than 82% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 55% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).

Working with C27200
Is C27200 easy to machine?
Machinable but gummy compared with leaded C36000 (≈30 % of AISI 1212) — use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed, light feeds and good lubrication; prefer H02/H04 tempers for cleaner chips.
Can C27200 be welded?
Best joined by soldering or brazing; GTAW/oxyfuel possible with silicon-bronze filler but zinc volatilization causes porosity and fume — provide extraction and avoid resistance welding.
Can C27200 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability in OS025/OS050 for deep drawing, spinning and stamping; interanneal at 425–600 °C and stress-relieve cold-worked parts at 260–300 °C to prevent season cracking.
C27200 chemical composition (wt %)
Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| Cuincludes silver | 62 – 65 | 63 |
| Pb | ≤ 0.07 | |
| Fe | ≤ 0.07 | |
| Zn | balance |
What surface finishes work on C27200?
Buffs to a bright gold lustre; readily nickel/chrome/gold plated, chemically antiqued or lacquered — anodizing is not applicable to copper alloys.
Surface treatments FabDigit runs on copper alloy parts — pick them in the quote configurator or call them out on the drawing. Each links to its datasheet in the surface-finish library (thickness, specs, call-out, material verdicts).
How much does C27200 cost?
C27200 is a high-cost copper alloy ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
