| Condition · open for datasheet | Best for | Yield MPa | Tensile MPa | Elong. % | Hardness | Conductivity |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Soft annealed | Pick for deep drawing, severe bending and forming before final work-hardening. | 140 | 360 | 48 | 85 HB | 15 % IACS |
Quarter hard | Pick when moderate forming must be combined with a useful strength increase over annealed. | 290 | 420 | 25 | 120 HB | 14 % IACS |
Half hard | General-purpose cold-rolled strip temper balancing strength and bend performance. | 385 | 485 | 12 | 142 HB | — |
HR02Default Half hard, cold rolled and stress relieved | Default stocked strip temper: half-hard strength with a stress-relief bake to raise elastic limit and resist ammonia stress-corrosion cracking. | 400 | 490 | 10 | 145 HB | 14 % IACS |
Full hard | Pick for flat springs, contacts and stampings needing high strength with only gentle forming. | 480 | 560 | 6 | 165 HB | — |

Spring hard | Pick for spring contacts and clips where the highest elastic limit in thin strip is required. | 595 | 655 | 3 | 196 HB | 14 % IACS |
What is C66200?
C66200 is a wrought copper-zinc brass with a modest nickel addition that raises strength and corrosion resistance over plain brass, covered by ASTM B591 and supplied as strip and sheet in O60 through H08 tempers. Engineers use it for stamped and drawn hardware and connector parts needing 400 MPa yield, 490 MPa tensile, 10 % elongation and 145 HB (78 HRB). It is unleaded, so machinability is only about 32 % of free-cutting brass; electrical conductivity is 14 % IACS and service is limited to 180 °C. Where deep forming matters more than strength, C26000 cartridge brass is the simpler choice. C66200 has a density of 8.53 g/cm³ (0.308 lb/in³), lighter than 62% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 900°C (1,652 °F). C66200 has a yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 490 MPa (71.1 ksi) — stronger than 80% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 10% and the elastic modulus is 115 GPa (16.7 Msi).
What is C66200 used for?
- architectural hardware
- electrical connectors
- decorative trim
Advantages
- High strength — 400 MPa (58 ksi), better than 80% of copper alloy grades
Limitations
- Limited ductility — 10%, worse than 76% of copper alloy grades

Working with C66200
Is C66200 easy to machine?
Unleaded brass — gummy, long chips; use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and good lubrication; roughly 30 % of AISI 1212.
Can C66200 be welded?
Resistance and brazing/soldering are preferred; fusion welding risks zinc fuming and porosity, use silicon-bronze filler with local exhaust.
Can C66200 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent deep drawing and bending in O60/H01; in HR02/HR04 keep bend radii ≥1–2t and bend across the rolling direction.

Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.
| Element | Spec limit (wt %) | Nominal |
|---|---|---|
| Cuvalue recalled from CDA/ASTM B591 listing — verify against current standard | 86 – 89 | 87.5 |

What surface finishes work on C66200?
Polishes to a bright warm-yellow finish; readily nickel-, tin-, silver- or chrome-plated; use clear lacquer or benzotriazole passivation to prevent tarnish. Not anodizable.
