Working with VT1-00-H

Is VT1-00 easy to machine?

Use sharp, positive-rake carbide, low speed (25–50 m/min) with heavy rigid setup and flood coolant; soft CP Ti gums and builds up on the edge, and chips can ignite in fine form.

Can VT1-00 be welded?

Very good weldability by GTAW/PAW/EBW with high-purity argon trailing shields and backing; keep interpass temp low, weld surfaces clean, and reject any straw/blue/grey oxide colour (hydrogen/oxygen pickup embrittles).

Can VT1-00 be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent cold formability — deep draws, tight bends (≈2t) and roll forming in the annealed condition; allow for high springback and consider 200–400 °C warm forming for heavy sections; never use lead/chlorine-bearing lubricants.

What surface finishes work on VT1-00?

Pickle in HNO₃/HF to remove alpha case and heat tint before service; colour anodising and plasma electrolytic oxidation give decorative or wear layers; avoid iron contamination from steel tooling and grit.

VT1-00-H — frequently asked

What is VT1-00-H used for?

VT1-00-H is typically used for chemical process equipment, medical implants, marine components and cryogenic vessels. In short: softest CP titanium; best-forming CP grade; CIS equivalent to Grade 1.

What is the yield strength of VT1-00-H?

VT1-00-H has a typical yield strength of 420 MPa (60.9 ksi) and a tensile strength of 500 MPa (72.5 ksi) — weaker than 68% of titanium grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.

Is VT1-00-H easy to machine?

Reasonably — machinability is rated fair (50/100, better than 101% of titanium grades). Use sharp, positive-rake carbide, low speed (25–50 m/min) with heavy rigid setup and flood coolant; soft CP Ti gums and builds up on the edge, and chips can ignite in fine form.

Can VT1-00-H be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated very good (80/100). Very good weldability by GTAW/PAW/EBW with high-purity argon trailing shields and backing; keep interpass temp low, weld surfaces clean, and reject any straw/blue/grey oxide colour (hydrogen/oxygen pickup embrittles).

Pickle in HNO₃/HF to remove alpha case and heat tint before service; colour anodising and plasma electrolytic oxidation give decorative or wear layers; avoid iron contamination from steel tooling and grit.

Can VT1-00-H be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent cold formability — deep draws, tight bends (≈2t) and roll forming in the annealed condition; allow for high springback and consider 200–400 °C warm forming for heavy sections; never use lead/chlorine-bearing lubricants.

What is the maximum service temperature of VT1-00-H?

VT1-00-H is rated for continuous use to about 250°C (482 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between VT1-00-M and VT1-00-H?

M is the default condition — default stock condition: maximum ductility for deep drawing, roll forming, lining and cladding. H: pick when higher strength/springiness is needed in thin sheet, strip, foil or drawn wire and forming is minimal. Yield strength is 230 MPa in M versus 420 MPa in H.
