Working with Grade 2H-ANN
Is Grade 2H easy to machine?
Machine at low surface speed (25–50 m/min) with sharp, positive-rake carbide, heavy rigid setup and flood coolant; never dwell, and keep depth of cut constant to avoid work-hardened skins and chip fires.
Can Grade 2H be welded?
Excellent GTAW/plasma/EBW weldability with clean surfaces and full argon shielding of the pool, trailing shield and backside; keep interpass area bright silver — straw/blue/grey tints mean contaminated, embrittled welds.
Can Grade 2H be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms well but with high springback and a 2t–3t minimum bend radius; warm forming at 200–400 °C reduces springback, and hot sizing must be followed by descaling and pickling.
What surface finishes work on Grade 2H?
Pickle in HNO3/HF to remove alpha case and scale; anodize (AMS 2488) or use colour anodizing for anti-gall/decorative films, and avoid steel contamination during grinding or polishing to prevent rust staining.

Grade 2H-ANN — frequently asked
What is Grade 2H-ANN used for?
Grade 2H-ANN is typically used for aerospace fasteners, marine hardware, structural brackets and medical instrument components. In short: higher-strength Grade 2; guaranteed 58 ksi minimum; weldable CP titanium.
What is the yield strength of Grade 2H-ANN?
Grade 2H-ANN has a typical yield strength of 350 MPa (50.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 460 MPa (66.7 ksi) — weaker than 79% of titanium grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.
Is Grade 2H-ANN easy to machine?
Not especially — machinability is rated fair (40/100, better than 93% of titanium grades). Machine at low surface speed (25–50 m/min) with sharp, positive-rake carbide, heavy rigid setup and flood coolant; never dwell, and keep depth of cut constant to avoid work-hardened skins and chip fires.
Can Grade 2H-ANN be welded?
Yes — weldability is rated excellent (85/100). Excellent GTAW/plasma/EBW weldability with clean surfaces and full argon shielding of the pool, trailing shield and backside; keep interpass area bright silver — straw/blue/grey tints mean contaminated, embrittled welds.
What surface finishes work on Grade 2H-ANN?
Pickle in HNO3/HF to remove alpha case and scale; anodize (AMS 2488) or use colour anodizing for anti-gall/decorative films, and avoid steel contamination during grinding or polishing to prevent rust staining.
Can Grade 2H-ANN be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms well but with high springback and a 2t–3t minimum bend radius; warm forming at 200–400 °C reduces springback, and hot sizing must be followed by descaling and pickling.
What is the maximum service temperature of Grade 2H-ANN?
Grade 2H-ANN is rated for continuous use to about 300°C (572 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
What is the difference between Grade 2H-ANN and Grade 2H CW-SR?
ANN is the default condition — default stocked condition for Grade 2H sheet/plate/bar/tube; best combination of formability and the guaranteed 400 MPa minimum UTS. CW-SR: choose for cold drawn bar, wire or tubing needing higher strength and better straightness/surface than annealed, with reduced ductility. Yield strength is 350 MPa in ANN versus 470 MPa in CW-SR.
