What is S41041?
S41041 (410 Mod) is a niobium- and titanium-stabilized modification of 410 martensitic stainless with carbon below 0.03%, developed for weldable, formable thin sheet. Stabilization keeps HAZ hardness low, so annealed, 2B, No.1, 1/4H, Q&T and as-welded sheet can be joined without preheat or post-weld anneal; annealed values are about 280 MPa yield, 450 MPa tensile, 30% elongation and 150 HB (80 HRB). Service reaches 650 °C, but corrosion resistance and deep-drawability stay below austenitic 304; stabilized ferritics such as 409Nb are the usual alternative. S41041 has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,480°C (2,696 °F). S41041 has a yield strength of 280 MPa (40.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 450 MPa (65.3 ksi) — weaker than 75% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 30% and the elastic modulus is 200 GPa (29 Msi).

Working with S41041
Is S41041 easy to machine?
Machines like annealed 410 (≈55 % of 1212): use sharp, rigid tooling, positive rake carbide, moderate speed and heavy feed to avoid work-hardened glazing and built-up edge.
Can S41041 be welded?
Very good for a 12Cr martensitic type — Nb/Ti stabilization plus <0.03 % C keeps HAZ hardness low, so thin sheet is normally welded (GTAW/HF/laser) with no preheat or post-weld anneal; use 409Nb/430Nb or 309L filler for thick sections.
Can S41041 be formed, bent or molded?
Cold forms, roll-forms and hydroforms better than standard 410 but with more springback and less deep-drawability than austenitic 304; hot work 1100–800 °C followed by slow cooling and an annealing cycle.
