Hardened (austenitize 1020–1070 °C, oil/air quench), untempered | As-quenched state only — brittle and highly stressed; temper immediately, never use as delivered condition. | 1,100 | 1,450 | 6 | 46 HRC | 2.7 % IACS |
What is 1.4922?
1.4922 (X20CrMoV11-1, 1Cr11MoV) is the classic 11% Cr-Mo-V martensitic heat-resistant steel, hardened and tempered for creep strength up to about 550 °C and available as +A, +N, +Q, +QT700, +QT800 and +QT900. The default condition gives 560 MPa yield, 760 MPa tensile, 18% elongation and 240 HB (22 HRC), with a maximum service temperature of 565 °C. It is the easiest to machine in this group (score 40) but corrosion resistance is modest (38) and welding requires high preheat with PWHT. For higher creep strength at 600 °C, step up to 1.4905 or 1.4935. 1.4922 has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). 1.4922 has a yield strength of 560 MPa (81.2 ksi) and a tensile strength of 760 MPa (110 ksi) — stronger than 85% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 18% and the elastic modulus is 216 GPa (31.3 Msi).
