What is 1.4913?

1.4913 (X19CrMoNbVN11-1) is an 11% Cr martensitic steel alloyed with niobium, vanadium and nitrogen for creep resistance and dimensional stability at temperature, supplied in +A, +QT and +U conditions. In the default temper it gives 760 MPa yield, 950 MPa tensile, 16% elongation, 295 HB (31 HRC) and 216 GPa modulus with service to 600 °C, which suits turbine disks, blades and hot bolting. Machinability (28), weldability (25) and formability (15) are all low, and corrosion resistance (35) covers steam oxidation only. 1.4922 machines and welds more easily where creep demands are lower. 1.4913 has a density of 7.7 g/cm³ (0.278 lb/in³), lighter than 83% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,425°C (2,597 °F). 1.4913 has a yield strength of 760 MPa (110 ksi) and a tensile strength of 950 MPa (138 ksi) — stronger than 94% of stainless steel grades. Elongation at break is 16% and the elastic modulus is 216 GPa (31.3 Msi).

Working with 1.4913

Is 1.4913 easy to machine?

Machine in the annealed condition where possible; in +QT use rigid setups, sharp carbide inserts, low speed and generous coolant — work-hardening and poor chip breaking are typical.

Can 1.4913 be welded?

Weldable only with matching 12Cr filler, preheat 250–350 °C, controlled interpass and a mandatory post-weld temper below the tempering temperature; avoid welding on finished bolts.

Can 1.4913 be formed, bent or molded?

Hot forge/upset at 1100–850 °C with slow cooling and re-annealing; cold forming is very limited due to high yield strength and low ductility.
