What is BVAg-0?
BVAg-0 (UNS P07017) is a zinc-free, low-vapor-pressure silver brazing filler engineered for vacuum furnace brazing, where volatile elements would contaminate the chamber or the workpiece. It is soft and ductile - 150 MPa tensile, 55 MPa yield, 45% elongation, 26 HB - with 428 W/m·K thermal conductivity and 105% IACS electrical conductivity, and is supplied as annealed or hard wire, foil, powder and paste. Braze at 1010-1090 °C in vacuum or dry hydrogen with no flux; joints are rated to 400 °C service. Where a lower brazing temperature is acceptable, BAg-8a is the alternative. BVAg-0 has a density of 10.49 g/cm³ (0.379 lb/in³), heavier than 55% of precious metal grades. It melts at 962°C (1,763 °F). BVAg-0 has a yield strength of 55 MPa (7.98 ksi) and a tensile strength of 150 MPa (21.8 ksi) — weaker than 95% of precious metal grades. Elongation at break is 45% and the elastic modulus is 76 GPa (11 Msi).

Working with BVAg-0
Is BVAg-0 easy to machine?
Very soft and gummy — use sharp, high-rake, polished tools, light cuts and generous lubricant to avoid smearing; slitting/stamping of foil is preferred over machining.
Can BVAg-0 be welded?
Not a structural welding alloy; braze in vacuum (<10⁻⁴ mbar) or dry hydrogen at 1010–1090 °C with clean, oxide-free, flux-free joints and 0.02–0.10 mm clearance.
Can BVAg-0 be formed, bent or molded?
Excellent cold formability — drawn to fine wire, rolled to sub-50 µm foil and stamped into rings/washer preforms; interanneal only when cold work exceeds ~60 %.
