What is Rigid 10K?

Rigid Resin is a short-fibre or milled-glass reinforced SLA/DLP/LCD photopolymer available as Glass Filled, Rigid 4000, Rigid 10K, unfilled, High Temp, FR V-0 and ESD grades. The filler raises stiffness and dimensional stability for structural, load-bearing prototypes and fixtures: density 1.55 g/cm3, 75 MPa tensile strength, 5.5 GPa modulus, 85 Shore D and service to 100 °C. Elongation is only 2.5 %, so parts are brittle and notch-sensitive, the glass filler is abrasive (machinability score 40), and properties depend on the post-cure schedule. Tough Resin is the alternative where impact and elongation matter more than stiffness. Rigid 10K has a density of 1.55 g/cm³ (0.056 lb/in³), heavier than 91% of polymer grades. Its glass-transition temperature is 105°C (221 °F). Rigid 10K has a tensile strength of 75 MPa (10.9 ksi), stronger than 80% of polymer grades. Elongation at break is 2.5% and the elastic modulus is 5.5 GPa (0.798 Msi).

Working with Rigid 10K

Is Rigid 10K easy to machine?

Drilling, tapping and light milling are possible but the part is brittle and the glass filler is abrasive — use sharp carbide tools, low feed, no coolant soak, and extract the dust (respirator required).

Can Rigid 10K be welded?

Thermoset: cannot be welded or reflowed; join with cyanoacrylate, two-part epoxy or UV-cure adhesive, and screw into heat-set/threaded inserts rather than tapped resin.

Can Rigid 10K be formed, bent or molded?

Printed on SLA/DLP/LCD at 385–405 nm with a heated (30–35 °C) tank; shake/stir the cartridge because glass filler settles, then IPA wash 5–10 min, dry, and post-cure under UV at 60–80 °C per producer schedule to reach datasheet properties.

What surface finishes work on Rigid 10K?

Sands and primes well; bead-blast or 400–800 grit for a uniform matte, then use a UV-blocking primer/topcoat since bare photopolymer yellows and embrittles outdoors — electroplating requires a conductive base coat.

Rigid 10K — frequently asked

What is Rigid 10K used for?

Rigid 10K is typically used for engineering prototypes with thin walls, jigs and locating fixtures, brackets and mounting plates, low-volume mould and tooling inserts, ducting and manifold prototypes and heat-exposed under-hood test parts. In short: stiff glass-filled resin.

What is the tensile strength of Rigid 10K?

Rigid 10K has a typical tensile strength of 75 MPa (10.9 ksi) — stronger than 80% of polymer grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 9 listed tempers.

Is Rigid 10K easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated fair (40/100, worse than 82% of polymer grades). Drilling, tapping and light milling are possible but the part is brittle and the glass filler is abrasive — use sharp carbide tools, low feed, no coolant soak, and extract the dust (respirator required).

Can Rigid 10K be welded?

Not readily — weldability is rated not recommended (3/100). Thermoset: cannot be welded or reflowed; join with cyanoacrylate, two-part epoxy or UV-cure adhesive, and screw into heat-set/threaded inserts rather than tapped resin.

What surface finishes work on Rigid 10K?

Sands and primes well; bead-blast or 400–800 grit for a uniform matte, then use a UV-blocking primer/topcoat since bare photopolymer yellows and embrittles outdoors — electroplating requires a conductive base coat.

What is the maximum service temperature of Rigid 10K?

Rigid 10K is rated for continuous use to about 100°C (212 °F), and briefly to 150°C. Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between Rigid 10K Glass Filled and Rigid 10K GREEN?

Glass Filled is the default condition — default choice for stiff, dimensionally stable printed parts: thin walls, jigs, housings and fluid-flow models. GREEN: only for fit checks and visual mock-ups; strength, stiffness and heat resistance are far below datasheet values and creep is severe.
