Working with AlBC3-TA

Is AlBC3 easy to machine?

Tough, gummy chips — use sharp positive-rake carbide, rigid setups, moderate speed with generous coolant; expect ~30 % of AISI 1212 rates.

Can AlBC3 be welded?

Readily GTAW/GMAW welded with ERCuNiAl (matching NAB) filler, preheat 150–250 °C on heavy sections, followed by 675 °C temper anneal for seawater duty.

Can AlBC3 be formed, bent or molded?

A casting alloy: sand, centrifugal and continuous casting all standard; control melt oxides, use chills/risers for directional solidification, no meaningful cold forming.

What surface finishes work on AlBC3?

Takes a fine mechanical polish and darkens naturally to a protective bronze patina; not anodizable, plating and soldering require aggressive removal of the aluminium oxide film.

Is AlBC3-TA easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated fair (38/100, better than 55% of copper alloy grades). Tough, gummy chips — use sharp positive-rake carbide, rigid setups, moderate speed with generous coolant; expect ~30 % of AISI 1212 rates.

Can AlBC3-TA be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (68/100). Readily GTAW/GMAW welded with ERCuNiAl (matching NAB) filler, preheat 150–250 °C on heavy sections, followed by 675 °C temper anneal for seawater duty.
