Working with MS1300 CR-TEMPERED

Is MS1300 easy to machine?

At about 43 HRC conventional punching and machining tools wear extremely fast; laser cutting or high-strength punch materials are preferred. If punching, use generous die clearance and watch sheared-edge crack sensitivity.

Can MS1300 be welded?

Resistance spot welding and laser welding are both usable, but HAZ tempering softens the martensite so joint strength falls below the base metal. Limit heat input, control the welding current profile, and take precautions against hydrogen-induced delayed cracking.

Can MS1300 be formed, bent or molded?

With 3–6 % elongation the grade is limited to roll forming and simple bends; bend radii are normally ≥3–4× material thickness and larger transverse to the rolling direction. Springback is large and requires overbend compensation; deep drawing is not feasible.

What surface finishes work on MS1300?

Corrosion protection is normally zinc coating (GI/GA/EG) plus phosphate and cataphoretic e-coat. Avoid acid pickling and conventional electroplating, which charge hydrogen into the steel; if plating is unavoidable, bake immediately after plating to remove hydrogen.

MS1300 CR-TEMPERED — frequently asked

What is MS1300 CR-TEMPERED used for?

MS1300 CR-TEMPERED is typically used for door intrusion beams, bumper reinforcements and roof bows. In short: highest-strength AHSS sheet; roll-forming and simple bends only; anti-intrusion beam standard.

What is the yield strength of MS1300 CR-TEMPERED?

MS1300 CR-TEMPERED has a typical yield strength of 1,180 MPa (171 ksi) and a tensile strength of 1,330 MPa (193 ksi) — stronger than 94% of steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 2 listed tempers.

Is MS1300 CR-TEMPERED easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (22/100, worse than 95% of steel grades). At about 43 HRC conventional punching and machining tools wear extremely fast; laser cutting or high-strength punch materials are preferred. If punching, use generous die clearance and watch sheared-edge crack sensitivity.

Can MS1300 CR-TEMPERED be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (58/100). Resistance spot welding and laser welding are both usable, but HAZ tempering softens the martensite so joint strength falls below the base metal. Limit heat input, control the welding current profile, and take precautions against hydrogen-induced delayed cracking.

What surface finishes work on MS1300 CR-TEMPERED?

Can MS1300 CR-TEMPERED be formed, bent or molded?

With 3–6 % elongation the grade is limited to roll forming and simple bends; bend radii are normally ≥3–4× material thickness and larger transverse to the rolling direction. Springback is large and requires overbend compensation; deep drawing is not feasible.

What is the maximum service temperature of MS1300 CR-TEMPERED?

MS1300 CR-TEMPERED is rated for continuous use to about 250°C (482 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.
