Working with C14300-H10

Is C14300 easy to machine?

Machines like tough pitch copper — gummy, needs sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and flood coolant; local exhaust advised because cadmium-bearing fines/fumes are toxic.

Can C14300 be welded?

Resistance and brazing/soldering are excellent; fusion welding is difficult (high conductivity) and generates hazardous cadmium oxide fume, so forced ventilation is mandatory.

Can C14300 be formed, bent or molded?

Anneal to OS025 for deep drawing or heavy bending; H04–H10 tempers should only be gently formed and can be stress-relieved near 200 °C without much strength loss.

What surface finishes work on C14300?

Not anodizable; tin, silver or nickel plate for solderability and contact stability, or leave bright and expect a natural patina.

C14300-H10 — frequently asked

What is C14300-H10 used for?

C14300-H10 is typically used for trolley and contact wire, electrical connectors and commutator segments. In short: wear-resistant conductor copper; 90% IACS with 305 MPa yield; legacy contact-wire grade.

What is the yield strength of C14300-H10?

C14300-H10 has a typical yield strength of 370 MPa (53.7 ksi) and a tensile strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) — stronger than 75% of copper alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 5 listed tempers.

Is C14300-H10 easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (33/100, worse than 53% of copper alloy grades). Machines like tough pitch copper — gummy, needs sharp positive-rake tools, high speed and flood coolant; local exhaust advised because cadmium-bearing fines/fumes are toxic.

Can C14300-H10 be welded?

Not readily — weldability is rated poor (30/100). Resistance and brazing/soldering are excellent; fusion welding is difficult (high conductivity) and generates hazardous cadmium oxide fume, so forced ventilation is mandatory.

What surface finishes work on C14300-H10?

Not anodizable; tin, silver or nickel plate for solderability and contact stability, or leave bright and expect a natural patina.

Can C14300-H10 be formed, bent or molded?

Anneal to OS025 for deep drawing or heavy bending; H04–H10 tempers should only be gently formed and can be stress-relieved near 200 °C without much strength loss.

What is the maximum service temperature of C14300-H10?

C14300-H10 is rated for continuous use to about 175°C (347 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between C14300-H04 and C14300-OS025?

H04 is the default condition — default stock condition — hard-drawn trolley/contact wire, commutator segments and wear-resistant conductors. OS025: pick for maximum formability, deep drawing or when highest conductivity is needed before final forming. Yield strength is 305 MPa in H04 versus 76 MPa in OS025.
