Working with Cu-DHP-H02

Is Cu-DHP easy to machine?

Gummy and low-rated (~20 % of AISI 1212): use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed, generous soluble-oil coolant, and prefer cold-worked temper over annealed to avoid smearing.

Can Cu-DHP be welded?

Free of hydrogen embrittlement thanks to P deoxidation — GTAW/oxy-fuel and especially capillary brazing with BCuP filler work well; preheat 200–400 °C on heavy sections to counter high thermal conductivity.

Can Cu-DHP be formed, bent or molded?

Excellent cold formability in O temper (bending, expanding, flaring, deep drawing); interstage anneal at 400–600 °C after heavy reductions, and note hard tempers soften above ~200 °C.

What surface finishes work on Cu-DHP?

Not anodizable; finish by mechanical polishing, chemical brightening, tin/nickel/chrome plating, or clear lacquer to delay tarnish and patina.

Cu-DHP-H02 — frequently asked

What is Cu-DHP-H02 used for?

Cu-DHP-H02 is typically used for plumbing tube, refrigeration/AC piping, brazed pipe fittings and roofing sheet. In short: most-used copper tube grade; brazes without hydrogen embrittlement; lower conductivity than ETP.

What is the yield strength of Cu-DHP-H02?

Cu-DHP-H02 has a typical yield strength of 250 MPa (36.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 290 MPa (42.1 ksi) — stronger than 54% of copper alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 9 listed tempers.

Is Cu-DHP-H02 easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (30/100, worse than 67% of copper alloy grades). Gummy and low-rated (~20 % of AISI 1212): use sharp positive-rake tools, high speed, generous soluble-oil coolant, and prefer cold-worked temper over annealed to avoid smearing.

Can Cu-DHP-H02 be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (68/100). Free of hydrogen embrittlement thanks to P deoxidation — GTAW/oxy-fuel and especially capillary brazing with BCuP filler work well; preheat 200–400 °C on heavy sections to counter high thermal conductivity.

What surface finishes work on Cu-DHP-H02?

Not anodizable; finish by mechanical polishing, chemical brightening, tin/nickel/chrome plating, or clear lacquer to delay tarnish and patina.

Excellent cold formability in O temper (bending, expanding, flaring, deep drawing); interstage anneal at 400–600 °C after heavy reductions, and note hard tempers soften above ~200 °C.

What is the maximum service temperature of Cu-DHP-H02?

Cu-DHP-H02 is rated for continuous use to about 140°C (284 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between Cu-DHP-H58 and Cu-DHP-O60?

H58 is the default condition — default stock condition: straight-length water, HVAC and brazed process tube where rigidity and pressure rating matter. O60: pick for refrigeration/ACR coils, LP gas and instrument tubing that must be hand-bent or expanded. Yield strength is 220 MPa in H58 versus 65 MPa in O60.
