Working with ERNiMo-3 AW+SA

Is ERNiMo-3 easy to machine?

Weld overlay machines like solution-annealed Ni-Mo: slow speeds, heavy positive-rake carbide, rigid setup and flood coolant; expect rapid work hardening and poor chip breaking.

Can ERNiMo-3 be welded?

GTAW/GMAW with 100 % Ar (or Ar-He), stringer beads, low heat input and interpass ≤95–150 °C; no preheat, no filler dilution with high-Cr/high-Fe metals, and avoid prolonged 650–900 °C exposure.

Can ERNiMo-3 be formed, bent or molded?

Supplied as drawn wire; joint design should allow low-restraint, multi-pass filling since the deposit is ductile but sensitive to high dilution from carbon steel.

What surface finishes work on ERNiMo-3?

Remove all weld heat tint and oxide by pickling, grinding or stainless brushing before service — residual scale sharply degrades HCl resistance; electropolishing gives the best surface, anodizing is not applicable.

ERNiMo-3 AW+SA — frequently asked

What is ERNiMo-3 AW+SA used for?

ERNiMo-3 AW+SA is typically used for hydrochloric acid processing equipment, chemical reactor vessels and acetic acid production equipment. In short: matches Hastelloy B-3; best for hydrochloric acid; not for oxidizing media.

What is the yield strength of ERNiMo-3 AW+SA?

ERNiMo-3 AW+SA has a typical yield strength of 395 MPa (57.3 ksi) and a tensile strength of 780 MPa (113 ksi) — stronger than 52% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 3 listed tempers.

Is ERNiMo-3 AW+SA easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (18/100, worse than 61% of nickel alloy grades). Weld overlay machines like solution-annealed Ni-Mo: slow speeds, heavy positive-rake carbide, rigid setup and flood coolant; expect rapid work hardening and poor chip breaking.

Can ERNiMo-3 AW+SA be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated very good (82/100). GTAW/GMAW with 100 % Ar (or Ar-He), stringer beads, low heat input and interpass ≤95–150 °C; no preheat, no filler dilution with high-Cr/high-Fe metals, and avoid prolonged 650–900 °C exposure.
