Working with ENiCrMo-3-SA

Is ENiCrMo-3 easy to machine?

Deposit machines like solution-treated alloy 625 — work-hardens fast; use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, 20–35 m/min surface speed and flood coolant.

Can ENiCrMo-3 be welded?

DCEP, stringer beads, low heat input (<1.5 kJ/mm), interpass below ~150 °C and no weave beyond ~3× core diameter; re-dry electrodes 250–300 °C to avoid porosity and control dilution from carbon steel to keep Fe low.

Can ENiCrMo-3 be formed, bent or molded?

Not a wrought product — weld metal is not formed; peening between passes is sometimes used to control distortion in thick overlays.

What surface finishes work on ENiCrMo-3?

Grind/brush with dedicated stainless or Ni-alloy tools, then pickle-passivate or electropolish; anodizing is not applicable and iron contamination must be avoided in corrosion service.

ENiCrMo-3-SA — frequently asked

What is ENiCrMo-3-SA used for?

ENiCrMo-3-SA is typically used for alloy 625 fabrication, subsea and offshore equipment welding, dissimilar metal joints and overlay cladding. In short: general-purpose 625 electrode; service to 815 °C; strong dissimilar-metal filler.

What is the yield strength of ENiCrMo-3-SA?

ENiCrMo-3-SA has a typical yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 740 MPa (107 ksi) — stronger than 56% of nickel alloy grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 4 listed tempers.

Is ENiCrMo-3-SA easy to machine?

Not especially — machinability is rated poor (22/100, better than 64% of nickel alloy grades). Deposit machines like solution-treated alloy 625 — work-hardens fast; use rigid setups, sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, 20–35 m/min surface speed and flood coolant.

Can ENiCrMo-3-SA be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated excellent (96/100). DCEP, stringer beads, low heat input (<1.5 kJ/mm), interpass below ~150 °C and no weave beyond ~3× core diameter; re-dry electrodes 250–300 °C to avoid porosity and control dilution from carbon steel to keep Fe low.

Can ENiCrMo-3-SA be formed, bent or molded?

Not a wrought product — weld metal is not formed; peening between passes is sometimes used to control distortion in thick overlays.

What is the maximum service temperature of ENiCrMo-3-SA?

ENiCrMo-3-SA is rated for continuous use to about 815°C (1,499 °F). Strength falls off well before that limit — check the elevated-temperature data for load-bearing parts.

What is the difference between ENiCrMo-3-AW and ENiCrMo-3 Aged?

AW is the default condition — standard delivery condition of the deposit: use for virtually all 625, dissimilar-metal and overlay joints, no PWHT required. Aged: property set to assume for deposits after long exposure near 700 °C, where γ″ and δ/Laves precipitation raise strength but sharply cut toughness. Yield strength is 520 MPa in AW versus 700 MPa in Aged.
