Working with E410NiMo PWHT-DT

Is E410NiMo easy to machine?

Machine after tempering (≤26 HRC); as-welded deposit at 34+ HRC needs carbide tooling, low speed and rigid setup — finish grinding is usually preferred for turbine blade profiles.

Can E410NiMo be welded?

Preheat/interpass 100–160 °C, keep interpass below ~150 °C to allow martensite transformation, cool to ~100 °C before the 595–620 °C temper; redry electrodes (250–300 °C) and never temper above Ac1 (~630 °C).

Can E410NiMo be formed, bent or molded?

Not applicable — consumable electrode; deposit shape is controlled by weave, bead sequence and buttering layers rather than forming.

What surface finishes work on E410NiMo?

Deposits blend-grind and polish well and can be shot-peened for cavitation service; passivate or leave bare — do not plate before tempering because of hydrogen embrittlement risk.

E410NiMo PWHT-DT is typically used for hydro turbine runner repair, CA6NM casting weld repair and pump and valve components. In short: CA6NM-matching deposit; cavitation-resistant overlay; requires post-weld temper.

What is the yield strength of E410NiMo PWHT-DT?

E410NiMo PWHT-DT has a typical yield strength of 640 MPa (92.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 780 MPa (113 ksi) — stronger than 90% of stainless steel grades. Strength varies by condition: see the 6 listed tempers.

Is E410NiMo PWHT-DT easy to machine?

Reasonably — machinability is rated fair (48/100, better than 88% of stainless steel grades). Machine after tempering (≤26 HRC); as-welded deposit at 34+ HRC needs carbide tooling, low speed and rigid setup — finish grinding is usually preferred for turbine blade profiles.

Can E410NiMo PWHT-DT be welded?

Yes — weldability is rated good (55/100). Preheat/interpass 100–160 °C, keep interpass below ~150 °C to allow martensite transformation, cool to ~100 °C before the 595–620 °C temper; redry electrodes (250–300 °C) and never temper above Ac1 (~630 °C).
