What is 1.4501?
EN 1.4501 (S32760, X2CrNiMoCuWN25-7-4, Zeron 100, F55) is a 25Cr super duplex stainless alloyed with tungsten and copper for high pitting and crevice corrosion resistance (score 88) in seawater and produced chloride environments. It is specified for offshore and subsea duty at 580 MPa yield, 800 MPa tensile, 30% elongation and 260 HB / 25 HRC, and is available as solution-annealed plate and bar, F55 forgings, seamless pipe, cold-drawn bar, cold-worked strip and 5A castings. Cost and lead time are higher than 2205, machining is slow, and welding requires ferrite control in the 35–55% range; 1.4507 is the nearest copper-bearing alternative and 1.4462 where a lower PREN is acceptable. 1.4501 has a density of 7.84 g/cm³ (0.283 lb/in³), heavier than 58% of stainless steel grades. It melts at 1,310°C (2,390 °F). 1.4501 has a yield strength of 580 MPa (84.1 ksi) and a tensile strength of 800 MPa (116 ksi) — stronger than 86% of stainless steel grades. Working with 1.4501
Is 1.4501 easy to machine?
Machine like a super duplex: rigid setup, sharp coated carbide, low speed and heavy positive feed to cut under the work-hardened layer, with flood coolant.
Can 1.4501 be welded?
Weldable by GTAW/GMAW/SMAW with matched 25.10.4.L (Zeron 100X) or Ni-base filler; keep interpass ≤150 °C, heat input ~0.5–1.5 kJ/mm and Ar+N₂ backing to hold ferrite 35–55%.
Can 1.4501 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot work 1000–1150 °C followed by full solution anneal ~1100 °C and water quench; cold forming is possible but needs ~2× the force of 316L with large springback.
