What is C70600?
C70600 is the workhorse 90/10 wrought copper-nickel with iron and manganese additions, covered by ASTM B111/B466 and equivalent to CuNi10Fe1Mn, CW352H, 2.0872 and BFe10-1-1. It is specified for seawater piping and heat-exchanger tubing for its seawater corrosion and biofouling resistance plus high weldability (92) and formability (90), in tempers from OS050/O60 through H08. Strength is modest at 310 MPa tensile, 120 MPa yield and 65 HB, the service limit is 300 °C, machinability is only 28, and sulfide-polluted stagnant water attacks the protective film. C71500 suits higher flow velocities. C70600 has a density of 8.94 g/cm³ (0.323 lb/in³), heavier than 90% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,100°C (2,012 °F). C70600 has a yield strength of 120 MPa (17.4 ksi) and a tensile strength of 310 MPa (45 ksi) — weaker than 79% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 40% and the elastic modulus is 124 GPa (18 Msi).

Working with C70600
Is C70600 easy to machine?
Gummy, work-hardening chip: use positive-rake sharp carbide, moderate speed (~60–90 m/min), heavy feed and generous coolant; rating only ~20 % of free-cutting brass.
Can C70600 be welded?
Excellent with GTAW/GMAW using CuNi 70/30 filler (ERCuNi/AWS A5.7); no preheat, keep interpass cool, avoid sulfur/carbon contamination and back-purge to prevent oxide entrapment.
Can C70600 be formed, bent or molded?
Very good cold formability in O60/OS050 — deep drawing, tube bending and tubesheet expansion are routine; anneal 700–850 °C then water quench between heavy reductions.
