What is C65600?

C65600 is a copper-silicon (silicon bronze) filler wire used for MIG brazing galvanized and coated steel sheet and for welding silicon bronze, valued for low fuming and good wetting. Deposits give about 190 MPa yield, 350 MPa tensile, 35% elongation and 85 HB (50 HRB), with 7% IACS and 36 W/(m·K) — low conductivity for a copper alloy, so specify C18980 filler for electrical work. It is supplied as hard-drawn spool wire and annealed rod. Service is limited to 200 °C and the deposit is hot-crack sensitive if heat input and interpass temperature are allowed to rise. C65600 has a density of 8.53 g/cm³ (0.308 lb/in³), lighter than 62% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 970°C (1,778 °F). C65600 has a yield strength of 190 MPa (27.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 350 MPa (50.8 ksi) — weaker than 57% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 35% and the elastic modulus is 103 GPa (14.9 Msi).

Working with C65600

Is C65600 easy to machine?

Weld beads machine like silicon bronze — gummy, ~30 % of free-cutting brass; use sharp positive-rake tools, generous rake angles and flood coolant.

Can C65600 be welded?

Run GMAW/GTAW with pure argon, short-arc or pulsed transfer and low heat input; keep interpass below ~150 °C and stringer beads to avoid hot cracking, and clean oxides before each pass.

Can C65600 be formed, bent or molded?

Wire is cold-drawn to size; annealed rod bends readily, hard-drawn spool wire must not be sharply kinked or feeding suffers.
