What is C68100?
C68100 is a low-fuming copper-zinc braze-welding filler with a modified iron, manganese and tin balance, from the same brass filler-rod family as RBCuZn grades. It is used for braze welding steel and copper alloys and for dissimilar-metal joints, and is supplied as bare rod, flux-coated rod and annealed rod. Deposits give about 190 MPa yield, 415 MPa tensile, 25% elongation, 105 HB (62 HRB) and 25% IACS, with service capped at 200 °C. Deposit strength is below the C68000 manganese-bronze filler, so choose that grade when strength governs; zinc fume extraction is still required. C68100 has a density of 8.4 g/cm³ (0.303 lb/in³), lighter than 75% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 866°C (1,591 °F). C68100 has a yield strength of 190 MPa (27.6 ksi) and a tensile strength of 415 MPa (60.2 ksi) — weaker than 57% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 25% and the elastic modulus is 100 GPa (14.5 Msi).
What is C68100 used for?
- pipe and tank fabrication
- structural steel braze welding
- dissimilar metal joining
Advantages
- Readily welded — 80/100, better than 93% of copper alloy grades
Limitations
- Low stiffness — 100 GPa (14.5 Msi), worse than 82% of copper alloy grades

Working with C68100
Is C68100 easy to machine?
Deposits machine like unleaded 60/40 brass — sharp tools, positive rake, ~30 % of AISI 1212; avoid smearing with dull tools.
Can C68100 be welded?
Intended as the filler itself: braze weld with oxyacetylene (slightly oxidizing flame) or TIG at low heat input with brass flux; keep base metal below the filler liquidus to avoid fusion and zinc loss, and always use fume extraction.
Can C68100 be formed, bent or molded?
Rod is supplied cold drawn; can be lightly bent for feeding, but the alpha-beta structure limits sharp cold bends without a 400–500 °C anneal.

What surface finishes work on C68100?
Deposit polishes to a brass-gold color; can be tin, nickel or chrome plated, painted after abrasive cleaning, or lacquered to prevent tarnish — do not anodize.

How much does C68100 cost?
C68100 is a high-cost copper alloy ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
C68100 — frequently asked
