What is C71500?

CuNi30Mn1Fe (C71500, BFe30-1-1) is a 70/30 copper-nickel with manganese and iron additions, available in annealed O61 through H04 and H80 tempers, HR50 and H55, and in as-built and heat-treated AM conditions. It is specified for seawater service on the strength of a 82 corrosion resistance score, 45% elongation and a 90 formability score, with 140 MPa yield, 380 MPa tensile and 80 HB in the default condition. Strength is modest compared with aluminium bronze, and the alloy is gummy and work-hardening in the cut; C63000 is the alternative where load-bearing strength governs over corrosion behaviour. C71500 has a density of 8.94 g/cm³ (0.323 lb/in³), heavier than 90% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 1,171°C (2,140 °F). Working with C71500

Is C71500 easy to machine?

Gummy and work-hardening (≈20 % of AISI 1212) — use sharp positive-rake carbide, heavy positive feed, rigid setup and flood coolant to avoid rubbing.

Can C71500 be welded?

Excellent with GTAW/GMAW using ERCuNi (70/30) filler under argon; keep interpass low, avoid oxide/S/Pb contamination and do not use preheat.

Can C71500 be formed, bent or molded?

Very good cold formability in O61 (deep drawing, tube bending, expanding); hot work 900–1050 °C only, anneal 700–850 °C followed by rapid cool.
