What is C79600?
C79600 is a free-cutting leaded nickel silver rod alloy in the Cu-Ni-Zn family, supplied in O61, M30, OS035, H01, H02 and H04 conditions for screw-machine production. It combines corrosion resistance and a bright silvery finish with a machinability rating near 70% of C36000; the default condition gives 400 MPa yield, 550 MPa tensile, 15% elongation, 160 HB, 85 HRB and 8% IACS electrical conductivity. Lead makes the alloy unsuitable for fusion welding and limits cold forming and hot shortness must be respected — use unleaded C77600 where welding or deep drawing is required. C79600 has a density of 8.52 g/cm³ (0.308 lb/in³), lighter than 63% of copper alloy grades. It melts at 875°C (1,607 °F). C79600 has a yield strength of 400 MPa (58 ksi) and a tensile strength of 550 MPa (79.8 ksi) — stronger than 80% of copper alloy grades. Elongation at break is 15% and the elastic modulus is 117 GPa (17 Msi).

Working with C79600
Is C79600 easy to machine?
Excellent free-cutting behaviour — lead breaks chips; run at brass-type speeds with sharp positive-rake tools and light oil; rating ≈70 % of C36000.
Can C79600 be welded?
Fusion welding is not recommended (lead causes hot shortness); join by soft soldering, low-temperature silver brazing or mechanical means.
Can C79600 be formed, bent or molded?
Hot extrude/forge at ~700–800 °C; cold forming limited by the beta phase and lead — keep bends generous and anneal between heavy operations.
C79600 chemical composition (wt %)
Limits by weight percent from the governing specification, written the way the spec states them — a single maximum for impurities, a range for alloying elements, and the base element as balance. Nominal is the typical mid-range value.

|---|---|---|
| Cu | 43 – 46 | 44.5 |

What surface finishes work on C79600?
Polishes to a bright silver-white lustre; readily nickel-, chrome- or silver-plated, and often lacquered to prevent tarnish. Avoid ammonia-based cleaners (SCC risk).
Surface treatments FabDigit runs on copper alloy parts — pick them in the quote configurator or call them out on the drawing. Each links to its datasheet in the surface-finish library (thickness, specs, call-out, material verdicts).
How much does C79600 cost?
C79600 is a high-cost copper alloy ($$$$), pricier than about 78% of the materials FabDigit quotes. Part price depends far more on geometry, tolerance and quantity than on the raw stock — upload a CAD file for a live quote.
