What is A47 M3210?
ASTM A47 M3210 is a ferritic (blackheart) malleable iron produced by a long graphitizing anneal of white iron castings, cross-referenced to KTH330-08, EN-GJMB-350-10 (0.8135) and FCMB. It is chosen for small sand- and shell-cast fittings and hardware that must be threaded, staked or lightly bent, offering 240 MPa yield, 360 MPa tensile and 14 % elongation at 130 HB (74 HRB) with a machinability score of 80 and service to 425 °C. Limits are poor fusion weldability, section thickness below about 40 mm for full graphitization, and low corrosion resistance (score 16), so parts are galvanized or painted. Ductile iron is the usual alternative in heavier sections. A47 M3210 has a density of 7.3 g/cm³ (0.264 lb/in³), lighter than 98% of steel grades. It melts at 1,135°C (2,075 °F). A47 M3210 has a yield strength of 240 MPa (34.8 ksi) and a tensile strength of 360 MPa (52.2 ksi) — weaker than 96% of steel grades. Elongation at break is 14% and the elastic modulus is 170 GPa (24.7 Msi).

Working with A47 M3210
Is A47 M3210 easy to machine?
One of the easiest ferrous castings to cut — free-machining at 120 % of B1112; use carbide or HSS, dry or with light coolant, and expect short chips from the temper-carbon nodules.
Can A47 M3210 be welded?
Poor: fusion welding re-forms brittle white iron in the HAZ; if unavoidable use Ni or NiFe electrodes, low heat input, preheat 200–300 °C and post-weld anneal, or braze instead.
Can A47 M3210 be formed, bent or molded?
Cast as white iron in green sand/shell moulds with adequate chills, then malleablized 30–60 h; section thickness must stay under about 40 mm for full graphitization, and thin sections can be cold-bent or staked.
